On the other hand, think of how many classic plots have been ruined by the arrival off the mobile phone. Suspense is technically dead if everyone is able to tell everyone else everything anytime.
Noticed how many of those examples were remakes, by the way? You couldn't sell these anymore these days without making dead-sure right in the beginning that cell phones don't work there. They'd be just ridiculous.
