Holocaust Hero Chiune Sugihara Posted: 3 weeks ago by bingo
Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara was in Lithuania when Germany invaded Poland. Jewish refugees came to the consulate seeking travel documents in order to escape the Nazis. Sugihara’s superiors ordered him not to issue any travel visas.

Sugihara’s next actions enabled around 6,000 Jewish refugees to escape the Holocaust. For his efforts, Sugihara was imprisoned by the Soviets and fired from his job.

Thank you for posting this. It is a wonderful tale of selflessness and quite refreshing to read. I never heard of this man which is a sad statement

It is sad that human decency was all but scarse during WWII. So many people

I think you would be surprised at how much decency there really was.
Of course the cruelty, size and scope of the evil overshadows it, but it was there.

I think Starman said it best: humans are at their best when things are at their worst.
