Gerry Bursk is 75. He is married to Dawn who is 40. Dawn is pregnant and Gerry is the father. When Dawn gives birth in March 2010 Gerry will hold the record for oldest father in Britain.

Traditionally if a woman of advanced years decides to have a baby it provokes quite intense reaction from both those who say it's right and those who say it's wrong.
I wonder if the same feelings are aroused by an old man fathering children.

That reminded me that Tony Randall was 77 and 78 when his two children were born.
I think it's bittersweet to have children so late in life when you know you will probably not live to see them grow up.

I think it's just wrong.
It's unfair to the kid, you know when you have them that late that they're going to have to grow up without a father or mother.

When a father is old, as you can see from other comments, it is more of an emotional issue.

When a father is old, as you can see from other comments, it is more of an emotional issue. Yes the health issue can become serious when an older woman gives birth.
The older mothers have a much higher incidence of births where the baby is mentally or physically impaired. Not a good idea.
