The Atlantic seal hunt – FAQs Posted: 2 years ago by tundramonkey
Although it makes global headlines, many people are uninformed of the actual logistics of Canada's annual Atlantic Seal Hunt. This article clears much of the hype surrounding the seal hunt.
Those pictures of little baby white seals getting clubbed? They're all older than 20 years.

Man, and I was going to go clubbing this weekend...for chicks, not seals.

The 2007 harp seal total allowable catch has been set at 270,000. That's down from the 2006 quota, 325,000, and about the same as the quota set from 1997 to 2002.
Un"fuking"believable. I never knew those numbers before.
(Monkey, I hope you don't mind that I changed the category. *heart ya*)

Thanks for finding that article, TMonkey, interesting for me to see the different views and facts expressed so dispassionately.

On Discovery Channel we get to see a series about crab-fishing in the North Pacific Ocean, it's all about the tough life for the men on board of the boats, etc. But you can always see them chucking these huge crabs into the holds, without concern for damage (read: hurt, pain) to the animals.

Amazing that no-one even discusses these animals in the same way as the seals, isn't it?
