I really don't think it would be that traumatic to be drawn on.. In fact I would have to laugh if I found my dog with swasticas on him. I would be angery at the person for breaking in and messing with my animal... but the symbols would give me weeks of laughter.
does this make me a bad person?

While the Swastika originated as a Buddhist symbol to millions of people it has come to represent the stupidity of Nazism and neo-Nazism. Even today crimes are committed by those who worship that particular nonsense.
If the yobs had painted the symbols on each other, OK. White supremacists have never been known for being the brightest amongst us.
I wouldn't laugh if I found anything at all painted on an animal. Abusing animals is a no-no. Not only is it profoundly unfair to the animals involved, but abuse of animals is widely considered as symptomatic of deep-seated psychological problems.

I just don't understand why this is abuse. It doesn't hurt the animal, might be annoying to have some random person hold them still long enough to write on them, but certainly not abuse.
If anything is abuse it's dyed poodles.

Still laughing? no.. it has worn off. I don't like the reasons people are doing this... but I dont see how writing on a pony is cruelty.. I imagine riding them must be much more unpleasent, well that and branding. Branding just isn't cool.

I would be horrified to find neonazi stuff written or drawn or grafitti'd on anything of mine.... But if one of my kids were to draw say smiley faces on my dog, I'd secretly be cracking up, after I carefully explain to the kid that a pet isn't an appropriate writing surface!
Reminds me of the little idiot who scratched her full name into the paint of my ex's pickup truck!

Hmmm, seems like you guys have never spent any time on a working ranch. You're always welcome to come out to my families swath and see how its done.
As much as you'd like it to be, painting a non-plussed pony is not cruelty regardless of the symbolism. Insulting it in a 'Colonel Blimp' voice would be down right sadistic though!
