I'd like to see these results up against Germany, Russia, France and the U.K. I think Germany had the lead all the way through the seventies. Not sure who's the boosiest now though.

The nordics are being curbed a bit by taxation - I think Sweden is cheaper than Norway, causing a lot of weekend trips over the border.

The UK is doing very 'well' in the alcoholism stakes due to low prices of booze in the supermarkets. The price has fallen by 50% in real terms in the last 15 years iirc. Doctors are already warning of a sirrocis epidemic looming in the next 10 years from people currently in their 20s.

In terms of getting help though, there are many who are functioning alcoholics - dependent but still holding their lives together. No way are those people going to put their names down somewhere as having this disease.

I like seeing assumptions in stories. The story give percentages of people who "at some time" abused or were dependent on it. AT SOME TIME. When I read the title I assume it means right now, not at some time. I will agree that alcoholism is a problem worldwide (with a few exceptions) but when you use phrases like "at some time" it gives some question to what that exact number is right now.

Binge drinking is defined as having more than four drinks during a single occasion for men or more than 3 drinks during a single occasion for women.
Hahaha, that's a joke right? You can't even feel drunk of that much.

Also, what is up with this pathetic attempt to poor a pint. lol It's 90% froth.

What I think is funny is that they are using the "abusing alcohol at one time" as a way of saying that we Americans are all on the verge of alcoholism. Plus the "being dependent at one time" thing has me also questioning what this is all about. Either you're dependent on alcohol or you're not. There is no "at one time." I also wonder who exactly it is that they are "polling" because a true alcoholic doesn't think they have a problem and would never check the little box that asks: "Do you have a problem with alcohol."
