I kind of agree. The concept's not too bad (as in morally or ethically wrong), using hokey emotional flag waving to stir up the consumer, but some things shouldn't be corrupted just to make a buck. Chevy's stooping low.

Out of interest, what's your take on Apple using the Rosa Parks picture as part of their 'Think Different' ad campaign?

This bothers me. Rosa Parks, MLK are not alive to give permission to be "sold out" to the ad world. It's very disturbing. It would be one thing if it were a PSA for getting involved in something worthwhile, but to sell stinking trucks, it's abhorrent.

I have a problem with any advertiser using the image of anyone without that person's permission....

No, not the estate of Rosa Parks, but Rosa Parks herself. Chevy or Apple or Coke (Gene Kelly) or what ever company shouldn't be able to do that at all.

If they just want to pay tribute to her for her life, cool. Just remove any link to Apple. Otherwise, they're using her likeness without her consent (assumption on my part).

i think its ethically wrong to promote a product based on the images seen. however, if the same commercial ran and the promo was "buy american made products", then i'd be a little more comfortable with it....which is kinda funny because half of the 'american made' stuff we sell isn't made in america at all.

"This is Lou Gehrig... Disneyland... a Japanese internment camp... a lung tumor... our beautiful flag... the Challenger disaster... grandma getting frisked at the airport... the Sears Tower... Bobby Fischer... the Unabomber... a scene from Grease... a purging bulimic... and this is our truck."

WTF?
