License to breed... PERIOD.

EDIT: They seem to have misspelled her name. They left out the "O" and added, "NE". Hmph...

Poor kid.

I'm talking about the mom. She's obviously young, irresponsible, employed at a s**tty demeaning job and and totally not up for parenthood but that in no way means that she deserves what happened to her. I can't imagine how godawful it's got to be to not only lose your baby but to know that it was because of a careless, stupid, colossal mistake that you made.

I clicked on the post thinking "OH god, what a horrible person, she deserves to be punished," but after reading the article, I think she's been punished enough.

This happened to a member of my family. (No, not this woman.) She's not an idiot, she's not a bad person. She loved her baby very much, and was (and still is) devestated that it happened.

This happens to all sorts of people, in all sorts of situations. It happens more now because baby seats are put in the back seats, because of the problems with car seats and air bags. Babies fall asleep, and parents focus on other things.

Be honest--how many times have you gotten to work with no recall of the drive there? We go on auto-pilot and drive by rote.

As a note, there are a number of devices available, including a monitor that goes on the car seat with a remote key fob. When the monitor is engaged on the seat, the fob will sound an alarm if the key fob gets more than 20 feet from the car.

My heart goes out to this woman and her family. They're suffering enough, without dealing with the judgement from anonymous strangers on the net.

Every summer children die while left in cars. Mostly it is someone shopping or at some kind of activity. All are sad and troubling. But to think your child is safe at someones home, only to discover you left him/her sitting in the car all day. I don't think I could live with that. Poor baby and poor young mother.

In regards to 'judgements from anonymous strangers' I think it's fair to say that we all would like to classify people who harm kids as 'Bad' whether they were intentional or not. Her kid suffered, or we perceive that he did, and we would like to think that only a moron would do such a thing. It makes us feel better. No, it couldn't have happened to anyone, only those who aren't as smart as I am. I wouldn't be capable of such a mistake.

I feel sorry for the kid.

I pass no judgements on the strangers on the net or the mother. I just feel sorry for the kid.

This Hooters is walking distace from my work.

I read this in my local paper this morning, and it hit me pretty hard. Even though it's October it's still hot here. On Sunday we broke a record with a high of 97 deg F. Anyone who lives in Phoenix knows you can't leave anything in a car ever especially your baby. What a waste.

I'll bet this chick is a hazard to anyone she is with during the course of a single day. The word "IRRESPONSIBLE" comes to mind.

When my oldest was just 5 or 6 months old, I had gone shopping with a friend of mine. When I got home I was unloading my purchases, grabbing my purse, and yes even the diaper bag. I closed the door and turned to leave, and then I saw these big blue eyes staring at me. I forgot her. Of course, it was only for a few seconds. But the fact is, I forgot. I would hope, something would nag at me that something wasn't right. That the sitter would call and verify if the child was coming. I feel sorry for her. I can't imagine her guilt and pain. I don't know how fairly she will be judged on this.
