A British primary school teacher has been arrested in Sudan accused of blasphemy for allowing her pupils to name a teddy bear Muhammad. The school's director, Robert Boulos, said Gibbons had since been charged with blasphemy, an offence he said was punishable with up to three months in prison and a fine.

What gets me is: The children voted to call the bear Mohammed. Surley if it is in their culture they would be aware this is Blasphemy? Or am I missing Something?

Statistically speaking, "Muhammad" is one of the world's most popular names, so I don't get what the deal is with its usage being considered blasphemous. Unless it's because the name was given to an inanimate object?

How pathetic, Im also from Liverpool and I saw in the paper about the people in Sudan calling for her to be executed, and shame on the UK.

Thats just pathetic. Take the troops out of Iraq and send them to Sudan.

12 Days in prison shes got. She could have had upto 40 lashings.

When you put it into context, its for naming a stuffed bear, the name "Muhammad"

If its so "Unique" why does about 50% of the population of Sudan have the name?
