The child was less than 2 years old, the father had been playing Ghost Recon. Someone's priorities are seriously messed up.

No, no, it's not a dupe. I was in the process of writing an explanation to you and I got sidetracked.
I downvoted it only because I'm one of the minority of people who feels that Plime has been having too many "man kills/maims/rapes child" stories. It's absolutely nothing personal, and there was nothing wrong with your link, it was just something that I feel has been on Plime too much lately.

Poor little girl. Why was the dad playing such a violent game in front of the baby? Maybe it's the paranoid mother in me, but wee ones don't need to be exposed to that imagery so early.
I think it's amazing that people keep blaming video games, music and movies for all the violence in the world. If the violence is coming from our choices of entertainment, then why were people maiming, murding, torturing and generally being hateful before all of this violent media was abounding? People have been hate-filled since the beginning of time, does this mean that they had video games, death metal and horror movies back before Christ?

Not only to the imagery, but to the brutality that she experienced. To me that stands out a lot more than what video game he was playing.

My 19 month old shuts my Wii and my 360 off all the time while I'm playing. I just laugh and tell her your right princess its supposed to be off. She used to turn them on all the time and they'd just sit and run, so I scolled her for it now if ones on even if I'm playing it she shuts it off.

Granted it's certainly less shocking, but Germany is planning on banning all violent games?
I'm a German Citizen, and I used to be proud of their general open-minded beliefs (at least compared to the USA where I live now).
I remember back in 1993 they banned DooM, too.
I don't get it.
There's not a bookstore in the country that doesn't have hardcore porn mags, prostitution is legal, and rape crimes go down.
Berlin was having an issue with HIV from drug users, so they started an givign out free syringes. What happens? Drug use goes down.
I always admired Germany for their progressive thinking...not for the liberal attitude, but for finding solutions that actually work!
Now, I'm certainly not saying that I think mass distribution of violent video games will DECREASE violence. I'm just saying that it's a strange move for a country that has had significant success in the past by avoiding these types of reactions.

edit; just noticed you said the same thing Skippii, I was googling to see what happened, I did find that Philly child protective services were called to check on possible abused child several weeks before the incident, but haven't found the a*****e's sentencing.

*Edit: I was only kiddin', but thanks for the downvotes! I expected as much from you on this, but I seem to recall a lot of issues with GTA being blamed on a lot of violence and this was before the xbox was even released.
