80% of my friends have been diagnosed. It has no cure, no actual known cause and it's pretty cruel. I hope by sharing more people can be informed. :)

research suggests a link to excess insulin, the hormone produced in the pancreas that allows cells to use sugar (glucose), your body's primary energy supply. By several mechanisms, excess insulin is thought to boost androgen production by your ovaries. Studies also indicate that genetic factors may play a role in PCOS.
Does that meen that this is one of those diseases that overweight peoples are prone to?

actually it's a vivious cycle. I went from 107lbs to 175 in six months. I was active, I was going to aerobics, dieting... and I stopped having my period. I went to several doctors who told me to lose weight....they were ignorant. It wasn't until 5 years later that I heard a radio commercial for a study and I knew immediately that is what had happened to me. I signed up for the study and the diagnosis was confirmed. If the doctors had known back then, perhaps I could have been spared much of the troubles I've endured. It's easy to spot a PCOS girl...they look like a bird, little legs and a big belly.

Oooh, so it causes you to gain weight, it isn't the result of weight gained.
