Art or abuse? Photographer takes away lollipops to make toddlers cry Posted: 2 years ago by capriccio
An LA photographer causes controversy with her photos of children crying in anguish. She got them to cry by taking away their lollipops. Some are calling it child abuse, she calls it art - and says she did nothing harmful. Her website is

I'd love to add photos - they're incredible. How do I do that besides the one I uploaded with the link?
This site is incredible, Jax. I couldn't envision it until now. I can see I'm going to be getting even less sleep now. :)

This is without a doubt, art. I don't care for it myself, but it's not abuse.

I agree its art.
And as for child abuse, its not as if she dumped them in the middle of a strange town and whispered "Mummys never coming home! Shes dead" in their ears.
My brothers used to play games like this with me all the time and I'm not scared or or strange in any way. Hey I can see a bunny rabbit on the park through my window. Gonna go kick it.
Ps - is thee a tut on putting images here or is it the same as worth. Id try a test but I did that with a link last night and it turned out horribly wrong.

I say it's art, in an abusive form.

It's art. The end result of the photos rather bothers me, but the taking away of the lollipops doesn't really bother me... though it's not in my taste. I don't see it as abuse - more like poor judgement.

jill's images are pretty powerful in my opinion but I dont think it is child abuse. The children have no other way of communicating their sense of loss except to cry.

Who hasn't rescued something from the throat of a little kid, generally something not belonging in a throat and perfectly shaped to block small air tunnels? Moms all over the world may very well be guilty of abuse.

When I babysit for my brother, I frequently have to shout.
"Billy, let go of the curtain!"
or
"Megan, get off his throat!"
or - and more to the point of the article,
"Right, thats it, im taking your crisps!"
The last of these yellings usually ends in tears however, and I protest, it is I who is abused by the children on these evenings.
Apart from Little Leah, whos just an angel all the time.

I think these are beautiful photos. I don't think the term "abuse" can even be used in any way to describe what the artist has done. Children cry over smaller things than having there loli-pops taken away.
Absolutely gorgeous photos.

THIS IS NOT ART!!
The "artist" if you can call her that, said her inspiration was how bad the Bush administration is. If Bush is so bad, then why is the economy booming, why is the stock market at the highest it's ever been and most of all, why have there been NO terrorist attacks in 5 years?! I would NEVER buy "art" from this woman. Like my friend Lisa said "Children are precious."
In Christ,
Karen
