Do You Know What Mormons Really Believe? Posted: 9 months ago by leopoldogolba
The LDS Church is the only true church. The Lord told Joseph Smith personally that all other churches are an "abomination." Any non-Mormon church is automatically part of the "church of the devil." No other church has the valid priesthood. The devil has even made a pact with many Christian pastors to teach Christian doctrines about the Trinity and salvation by grace. But in public we say that all religions are good and have some truth.

Wait a minute - are you saying that Mormonism is just like every other religion out there?
Based on outdated textbook? - check
Started by someone who is viewed as kooky by everyone else? - check
Has a rulebook about how to live and threatens eternal damnation to those who don't abide? - check
These rules have an alarming amount of reference pertaining to people's sex lives? check
Teaches that this is the one and only religion? - check
Requests that followers harass normal people in hopes of converting them to their superstition *sorry, religion? - check
Yep, it's a religion, and it's really no different than any other.

One of my best friends is a Mormon. And I can honestly say, her and her family are some of the nicest and kindest people I've ever met. In college, she took me to a bunch of church events, and a friendlier, warm and welcoming bunch of people I have never seen. I was never pressured (or even asked) about my religion, never threatened or told bad things would happen to me if I didn't convert.
Yeah, some of the things she and other Mormons do/believe are a little wacky in my book... but so what? Who doesn’t do a few things that would make the rest of us wonder? As long as it doesn't affect me, let them do what they want to do.
Oh and one more thing... incase you were wondering... they are true blue Democrats, through and through. I've asked her about Romney, and her response is always the same, "The same religion does not necessarily equal the same politics."

I agree with everything else you said, though. So long as any politician is able and willing to keep his/her personal beliefs separate from their professional (political) lives, then who cares what anyone believes?

She's a journalist, and is going to kick my ass if she finds out I made a stupid grammatical mistake. Don’t tell her.
I can attest to one thing, however... they are very strict when it comes to their ideas about abstinence. Lord knows I've tried.
Oh well, now I must change, and pick her up for fun night of dinner, and… nothing. *siiiiiiigh*

Funny, but I don't see Massachusetts reeling from his Mormon influence as Governor.
I don't think Romney's religion is any more an issue than John F. Kennedy's was.
Besides... Ron Paul is a follower of the flying spaghetti monster and I don't see people beating him up!

Great. Go to 'exmormon.com' to find out what Mormons believe. That's like asking my Ex what I am like. Trust me, she's got her own personal bias.
Want to know what they believe, ASK THEM. Trust me, most of them will be happy to tell you all about it. Don't ask the mormon-bashers what mormon doctrine is TRULY about.
is the link btw. If you want to know, get it from teh horses mouth. So this 'bashing' post is topical because their president died? How about we post some pro-nazi links next? Or maybe some KKK doctrine? After all, those have their own versions of the truth on the internet as well.
Hatemongering only shows people how ugly a person you are, not how bad others are.
I'm going to classify you right along with Phelps and company for posting this kind of rubbish link. Good day sir. Good day.

My friend Ed was raised as a Mormon. Another thing about Ed, he is gay. He has told me of the beliefs of the Mormon church. Joseph Smith was a con man and not a good one at that. I not a big fan of organized religion myself. But come on, people are defending the Mormons! Whats next are we gonna start defending the teaching of L. Ron Hubbard. A con mans a con man. Seem like the religious con is the way to go. I meen People seem to get all soft headed when it comes to salvation, I'm kinda sick of working. Anyone wanna help me start a religion around some moronic idea? Split it with you 50/50. Oh yeah about Ed.Ed aside from being homosexual is descendant form a prophet(aka junior con man). This means that Ed is promised a spot in mormon heaven. A gay man in Mormon Heaven, poor poor Ed

Show us the box with the scrolls...Then we might believe. Carbon date the shroud...Then we might understand. Have the rock spectro-analysied...Then we might understand. Dig up the Temple Mount and reveal the Ark of the Covenant...then we might see. Asking us to just "believe" is beyond many of our abilities. Beyond that keep your beliefs out of our government, our bedrooms, and off our bodies, or reform the country in the form of a relgious fundamentalism like our "enemy" Iran, a place many of us would have no desire to live.

I live in Salt Lake. I came from NJ. I try to keep an open mind but honestly it is a very strange feeling living in a city that is predominately one ethnicity and religion.
I still firmly believe everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want. My point is just that it is often a very uncomfortable feeling living here as a non Mormon. It is hard to feel as if you are wanted..or fit in. I often feel as if I am looked upon as a sinner solely because I do not believe as they do.

Sure it matters.
I think one of our problems in the US is that we don't fully examine the beliefs of our candidates and what that might indicate about them.
Now, understand I'm not equating the two, but if a candidate believed in Scientology I'd be seriously concerned about his/her IQ.
To me believing that in the 1800's an angel named Moroni spoke to Joe Smith indicates to me that this person is not presidential material.
Just my opinion of course. I don't have much respect for any religion but this one is certainly not ordinary.

I'm sure you'd feel just as 'out of place' in Vatican City.. or Jeruselum.. or any other predominantly religeious place.
I have been told it's an odd city on Sundays, everyone dressed up in suits with short haircuts and it's hard to find a 'ACTUALLY Rated R' movie because of all the movie rental places that only rent edited versions. There's hardly a starbucks to be found and any number of other oddities that go along with an economy which has a large number of mormons in it.
Perhaps it's more perception than truth though? Do they actually look down on you or do you just feel like they do?
