Pope allows condom use Posted: 2 years ago by TheStep
After apparently seeing sense, the Pope is prepared to relax the Catholic "condom ban", but only if the condoms are being used to prevent AIDS.

Finally! It's about time that Eggs Benedict realised you can't solve all (if any) problems with prayer.

Used to prevent AIDS? I'm confused. According to our infallible friends at the Vatican, condoms help spread AIDS.

I'm a bit confused by this. I haven't exactly studied the Catholic church extensively, but don't they say that the only reason for sex is to procreate? The rhythm method always confused me too. This seems like just one more example of hypocrisy to me.

I'm confused too.

Is there an explanation as to when sex is risky enough to condone condom use?

I'm fairly sure he's saying, "If you're sleeping around, go nuts with the bag. If you're in a married, stable relationship, you can't use one."

Well if you're sleeping around you're not exactly following the Church's teaching anyway, so I don't think it'd make too much difference if you use a condom while you're at it.

And I think the Church teaches that sex is for procreation but also to strengthen the bond between husband and wife.

Ok, that almost makes enough sense now. But it's still a bit odd.

Basically, he is saying, if you are married to a person that has AIDS, you can use condoms to not get the AIDS, but not to avoid pregnancy, which is a gift from god. Pregnancy being the gift, not AIDS.

So... If the female of the relationship has the AIDS, then the man needs to wear a condom but can't use spermicide of any kind and needs to empty the contents of the condom after sex into the woman so that there is a chance of her getting pregnant, even though she has AIDS? And if the man has AIDS, he should take the contents of the condom and remove the AIDS from it and then impregnate the woman with it? Or do you mean that the guy with AIDS should just always use a condom and dispose of the virus-inhabited condom afterwards and not be surprised or angry when his partner ends up pregnant because it is obviously a gift from God and totally not because she decided to cheat on him with someone that does not have AIDS?

I think that I shouldn't be thinking so much about this topic anymore.

Are you saying that they should stick to their dogma in order to not be hypocritical?

Well, if they did that then they wouldn't be the Catholic Church, would they? I just try to make sense of things, it usually fails hard when it comes to things of this nature.

Thankfully not just like Jesus. I'd s**t a brick if a condom ever came back from "the dead."
