I hope it's not a dupe. I seriously doubt they could have prevented it. The aorta literally tore into shreds. He was probably dead before he got there. I loved John Ritter and I was sooo saddened by his death. I remember the exact moment I found out. I had just dropped my daughter off at school, and I was driving down the street, they announced it on the radio. I literally stopped in the middle of the road. Luckily no one was behind me and it was side street. I could not believe it. It couldn't be true. I bought myself a small Clifford plush toy--he had voiced the dog in the animated series. I still have it.

I know a man who had a torn aorta. He barely survived.
Torn aortas are deadly, deadly things. There's not much you can do sometimes. They come suddenly and can seem like a heart attack.
I think the wife is still grieving. This is probably her way of dealing with her loss. It's so sad.

I had an aortic aneurysm that was discovered early and eventually successfully operated on in 1995.
The surgeon told me it was the biggest operation I'll ever have. Bigger in scope that a multiple bypass operation. He mentioned that if the aorta had burst, even if I was in a hospital, the chances of survival are minimal.
The aorta lies just in front of the spine and is buried by all of the other organs in front of it.
Even in a non-traumatic situation the operation is difficult because all those organs need to be lifted out of the way.
Today vascular surgeons may have developed easier ways to deal with aneurysms but I doubt it's any easier to deal with one that's burst. There is huge blood loss almost immediately.
