A boy of ten hanged himself after telling his mother that he wanted to become a girl. Cameron McWilliams, who liked to wear girls' underwear, asked if he could start using make-up just days before committing suicide.

Such a shame, he even seemed to have an understanding family which I imagine is rare for children like him.

I can't imagine a 10-year could be that depressed that he would take his own life. Such a horrible horrible and senseless tragedy.

It is wonderful that the family accepted him for who he was. They even allowed him to wear girl's underwear. Even his step-father seemed to have accepted it and didn't try the macho-bs.

To hang yourself because you can't wear make-up at 10? That is just senseless. I can't imagine what the family must be going through.

I assume that the parents (and most parents) wouldn't allow their daughter to wear make-up at 10 so it isn't like he was being singled out.

...There had to be other problems besides the whole "cross-dressing 10 year old" thing... Obviously, he was a sad and broken child who needed help and therapy, but what could have made him do such a thing, even as an "experiment"?

That is so scary. She said he was a sponge, very intellegent. I don't really know/believe if I would connect the cross dressing with the hanging. Kids who are incredibly inquisitive (not simply curious) can get fixated on a subject until they have what they feel is a satisfactory answer.

I have to wonder if it was just an accident as the mother suggested. The article said that he was curious about all the teenage hangings that had been in the news and like bunny said, is it possible he went too far in his quest for answers on this subject?

I feel for this family.

It's probably the other way around. The kid probably wanted to kill himself, which made him or perceptive to that kind of thing. It was prabably a cry for help that wasn't heard.

I have a guess as to why he would have done such a thing, but it's probably best not to try and diagnose someone who just passed away, especially when you haven't met them.

I just wish it didn't go that far, and I wish his parents the best.

"He was very studious and the most intelligent of my five kids," said Mrs McWilliams.
i thought that was quite a sad quote. seems like somewhat of a strange family.
