10 most inaccurate movies Posted: 7 months ago by FastTurtle
We all accept that movies stretch the truth in the interest of building drama. The following ten flicks, however, treat the truth like it was Silly Putty -- pulling and twisting it until it's unrecognizable.

I'll add this one: Karate Kid 2
I was on Okinawa when this movie played at the base theater. We were in stitches!
Apparently, there is an international airport south of the city of Naha. Which is on the southern coast...
Also, the island had main roads of dirt, and everyone drove old American sedans in the 80's.
There were a few others that made me giggle, but I can't recall.... Maybe the "everyone in Japan knows martial arts" thing... That's pretty prevalent in movies...

Urgh.
Seeing the similarities in the list, I'm going to say they ripped of Cracked in this case, without leaving in the humor and reasoning.

Is 2001: A Space Odyssey really in the same category as the rest? yea it is inaccurate but it was filmed in the 60's, how accurate do you expect movies/books are at predicting the future.
Some other good ones or should I say bad ones would be Fly Boys and Pearl Harbor.

Those were all great choices... except for A Space Odyssey; the simple fact of the movie is that everything in it, except for a "thinking computer" (RE: HAL) and the occasional alien influence was in the 1960s and still is today; ENTIRELY WITHIN OUR CURRENT TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE.
If we wanted to build all of the stations and ships in that movie, we could have done it 40 years ago, just because America and the rest of the world lost interest in Space Exploration (and thus there goes the money) doesn't make it any less historically accurate.
It wasn't even a historical picture, science fiction is the antithesis of historical fiction because it deals with what may come, not with what has passed.

From the description of Apocalypto:
"The conquistadors arriving at the end of the film made for unlikely saviors: an estimated 90% of indigenous American population was killed by smallpox from the infected Spanish pigs."
Amen! Those conquistadors really were pigs.

I wouldn't put 300 on that list. They've done really well, especially in the area of actual lines spoken. They've taken pretty close translations to what Leonidas, Gorgo and others have said.
Everything else was stylistic from the graphic novel, which actually had reason to deviate from history. The director directly stated their following the novel and not history itself.
