Patrick Combs was sent a phony advertising check for $95.000 Posted: 5 months ago by Moe
So he deposited it into his bank account with a smiley face endorsement. Funny that the advertisers who mailed it had included all the legal qualifications for a check instrument.

The bank cashed it - hilarity ensues.

You must have missed the last 2 or 3 pages there...

He gave the check back to his bank, because they were out that money.

I still don't understand why he paid the $65 interest so they would let him give their money that they gave to him by mistake back.

Morals and Ethics. He refuses to take money he didn't earn. The $65 was interest money he was given because he had 95,000 in his account. So he gave back the $65 as well as the 95,000.

It's easy to say "Their mistake, ha ha, I have your money and there is nothing you can do about it" it's hard to give the money back.

I remember when this happened.

I once cashed a $5 advertising check. The company that issued it kept calling and calling, but in the end they gave up.
