I appreciate that.
One of my personal favourites is the rise of paninis.
It's especially pedantic as I don't speak Italian. Even so I still know that panini is already plural.
One panino, many panini.
One has to hope that the owner of these establishments is called Panino.

Panini is a plural word in Italian. Yes, the word has been borrowed from the Italian, but in English Panini can be singular.
