Snap: A New Search Engine You Can Actually Use Posted: 3 years ago by rustycat
just found out about Snap. It’s a new search engine that lets you preview the site before actually entering it.

Why doesn't Plime use it?

« peleoz : Why doesn't Plime use it? Not sure what you mean? We have our own internal engine though.
I tried out Snap just now and didn't really find it easier to use than Google (or any more accurate). To me ease of use and accuracy are the most important things. The preview is nice, but also isn't accurate (as it's not up to date). And the extra time it takes to use this engine while you load the preview and move between items makes the name "Snap.com" sound a bit inappropriate.
If this comment sounds b*tchy, please note I'm not trying to be condescending or trash your blog post, and I apologize. I'm just thinking that the creators of this search engine spent too much time working on "features" and not enough on "function", which is something I myself have been guilty of working on Plime. There's a fine balance of both needed.

I think he peleoz was going for the snap preview thing they give to websites, not the actual search..

It's a good idea, and I had the Firefox plug in a few weeks ago. The main thing I didn't like about the preview window thing is that everytime i scrolled over a download link it would automatically download the file. I uninstalled it after that. If they fix that I might reinstall it again.
