Sorry, this a*****e doesn't deserve a penny.
He admits that he told officials he was gay because he wanted to avoid doing what was then the legally required year of military service. Service that was universally required.
He was counting on and praying to be discrimated against when it would help him avoid military duty. When the discrimination caused him the extra hassle of having to renew his liscense yearly he felt victimized??
Fine give him his money but have him serve the year of military service that avoided.

After his LIE he was marked down as 'psychologically unstable'. The military shared it's records with the DMV and when the DMV saw that he was 'psycholigically unstable' they put him into a category (disabled) which would require him to renew every year.
I agree with 2many. You reap what you sow. He lied so that they would think he's unstable, and now they think he's unstable and are making him pay the price for it.

Fine give him his money but have him serve the year of military service that avoided. I still do not think he can. Again, it was the stupidity of the ARMY that denied him service, by discriminating against him. Then it was the stupidity of the following govermental agencies to deny him a drivers license.
This is not an isolated case. The US army is still the most discriminating army I know in regards to homosexuality. It is fine if you shut up about it when joining the army, but when it comes out that you are gay, a whole heap of trouble will follow.

Don't know whether they allow gays in the military or not. The year of service is no longer required in Italy.
In any case, that is moot. Obviously forcing him to give the year of service will never happen. It was said in jest, but if they could force him to serve the one year, it would be poetic justice.
===========================================
Also, I don't think or at least don't know if he was lying. He probably wasn't. He probably really is gay. That doesn't change anything. He utilized and accepted the discrimination when it saved him, but when it caused him a bit of hassle then all of a sudden it becomes unacceptable?

Yeah, he said he was gay to get out of the army, but it wasn't a lie.

Since he would be "Disabled" for being gay. Does that mean he get's up front parking and a wheelchair ramp into major businesses? Dang, Homo's get all the good breaks. I bet he's getting a disability check to. No pun intended, but he could really 'Milk' this thing if he wanted to.

Yeah, he said he was gay to get out of the army, but it wasn't a lie. Good point. I read that..
"Giuffrida told AP from his hometown, Catania, he had hoped to avoid service and keep working to help support his family."
When I read that I assumed that he told them what he did to get out of military service. Not that he WAS gay, but that he had told them what they wanted to hear so he could get out.
He could very well BE Gay and just letting it work in his favor when he wants to, and when it doesn't, he sues.
He obviously didn't sue when he was 'mentally unfit' for duty. But now he sues because he's NOT 'mentally unfit' to hold a license for more than one year at a time.
One way or the other. You have to take the good with the bad.
