Who Does Rainwater Belong To? Posted: 1 month ago by funkfrost
Collecting Rainwater, It is often an easy way to help out the environment and, in the long run, simply save water. There doesn’t really seem to be any catches to it either. Rain falls from the sky, hits your roof and runs in to your drums or barrels or tanks.
If only it were that simple.

I was expecting the onion here, but instead got a seriously retarded story. I don't think any bad can come from allowing people to collect rainwater, in fact you could argue that collecting rainwater would lead to MORE water making it to the sewer system since almost all the water you collect would most likely be used for the toilet, showering, dishes, laundry, etc., all of which would return the water to the sewer system. If it just falls off your roof who knows where it goes.

Just another example of humans needing to put a stamp of ownership and a price tag on every single resource on this planet. It rains for 9 months straight where I live and I'm paying $35 bucks a month to the water company. Our culture is doomed.

If rainwater belongs to the state, I now declare the government responsible for the thousands of deaths every year from flooding.

A few rain barrels would have little effect on the replenishment of aquifers. You'd need a "Monty Burns" rain barrel (a la his machine that blocked out the sun in Springfield).
But on the other hand, rain belongs to us all. I get the idea that this is what is meant by “the government owns the water”. We, the people, are the government, and we the people should have equal access to our resources.
Just a thought.
