Allow me to introduce Barack Obama’s aunt Zeituni Onyango Posted: 1 year ago by Nateebiinature
Barack Obama has lived one version of the American Dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story.

I saw this story the other day, and as I was about to post it, I tried to figure out why it was important... and I just couldn't come up with a good enough reason.

I think it's sad that his aunt and uncle live a pretty tough life... but unless they're illegal aliens, I don't know if there's much more to it.

I just can't figure out an angle, good or bad, for this.

This isn't about finding an angle.

For me, and ONLY me, it's about the hypocrisy of a man who has spent Millions of dollars preaching to us to be 'our brother's keeper' ... yet two of his close family members live in squalor.

If that doesn't speak volumes. I don't know what does.

RON PAUL 2008. There, I've said it.

Natasha, have you done all you can to support your down and out relatives? If not, don't throw stones.

Nothing is ever as black and white (so to speak) as it seems. Obama has honored his grandmother in Hawaii, and I have faith he'd honor other deserving relatives as well. I doubt their first choice is to live in squalid conditions in a Boston tenement, but some people don't want what they construe as charity, even if it's from family members.

Also, note the timing of the 'find': just two weeks before the election. That makes me more than just a little suspicious. If his auntie wanted to hurt him, she would have done it already.

Meggysue,
I realize that to you and others on Plime,
I am merely a screen name. Therefore, your first comment regarding 'stone throwing' is received with the understanding that you are speaking as someone who knows nothing of who I am in the REAL world.

However, I'll politely respond by saying this:
Not only have I done, I CONTINUE to do for my family, friends and community. On a DAILY basis.

As far as the timing of this article... it may or may not have anything to do with last ditch efforts by the McCain campaign to disgrace Sen. Obama. Either way, my respect for him was lost long before his Aunt or Uncle came into the spotlight.

Come Nov. 4th. I implore all of you to vote with your conscience.
I know I will.

The article said they didn't think Obama knew where his family was. I don't see how this article says anything negative about Obama. It was, however, a pretty interesting read.

Just like you have no idea who Obama is in the real world. You have no idea what he has done for his family, or what his relationship with them is.

I have an uncle who lives on the streets. Literally on the streets, as over the years he's been kicked out of every shelter and program available. I'll preach to everyone to look out for each other. I'm all for taxes, and welfare, and government-funded healthcare.

But I would not want to be judged based on the actions of another family member.

Nobody can judge me for his being on the streets, when after decades of trying to help (haven't stopped yet) and "do something," the choice to remain on the streets and be kicked out of shelters and homes and programs was all his. In the end we're all people, and while I think it's important to help those less fortunate or down on their luck, I know there are people who just don't want to be helped.

Well, I'm telling myself I know this when it comes to my situation. The idealist in me wants to believe things can still be better and end up nicer than they are now. The realist in my knows things will only get worse.

Hmmm.

I can only say this about family economics: My family (Especially from my mothers side) more or less have this additude: Everyone is entitled to the money they've earned, and it is not shame if they don't share it with the family.

Why ? Because people should take care for themselves as much as they can.
In my live I've lived on both sides of the coin: One in moderate wealth, one in moderate poverty. But we never asked or were asked for money. I've got millionair relatives living in the US, but that don't obligates them to give money to me ?

As a society however, we do have the duty to keep people out of poverty. The best way ofcourse is providing a job, but since not everyone is lucky in getting a job, they should not be punished for being unlucky in jobhunting. (Provided that people activelly are looking for a job).

Oh, I disagree with you voting with your conscience: Vote with your brain. You may not like the fellow on a personal level, but you should allways look at the issues they claim they are for, and what applies to your best interrests. Ignore the mudslinging.

Obama's aunt...big news?

Why are we not getting any coverage on Palin's husband?

The boss of the family?
Was in a party that wanted Alaska to secede from the US?

We really nmeed to know more about the mystery man. We've certainly heard enough about Obama's wife.

I couldn't agree more with Chinook's statement that she wouldn't want to be judged by her relatives. I wouldn't want to be judged by mine, either. And I wasn't being snotty when I made the stone-throwing comment. Families are SO complex, and at times SO incomprehensible, that I would never judge another person by their relatives' conditions. THAT is the point I was trying to make.

My own younger brother, 46, is homeless. He sleeps in a storage shed, and won't take the steps he needs to take to change his situation for his own reasons. Some are valid; others are ignorant, frustrating and infuriating to my sister and I who have tried to help him. We help him as far as he'll let us; but his choices are his own, so he has to live by them. That may be the case with Obama's family members. We don't know, and really, it's none of our business.

Shep, I'm going to make the last comment I post on this subject to you. And in as simple terms as possible for you to understand.

I do not, ever, have to prove anything, to you.

You, Shep, on the other hand, have provided me ample proof of your lack of respect with that insulting ad hominem statement.

Obama lives in a million dollar house and makes millions from his book. He preaches spreading the wealth. Easier in theory than practice?

Why are we not getting any coverage on Palin's husband?
Cuz he's not important. Why no coverage of Jill Biden?

The boss of the family?
Was in a party that wanted Alaska to secede from the US?
Too bad this was found to be inherently false.

Obama's wife goes on the campaign trail and shrills for him. Mr. Palin sits and listens to his wife speak.

Todd Palin was indeed a member of the Alaska Independence Party

Mr Palin, although not a member of the Alaska government, apparently has access to cabinet meetings and other govt meetings that the public is not permitted to attend.
That's why he's important and Jill Biden is not.
