This is absolutely disgusting.
I was in a video forum once and something similar happened.
A kid had a razor and said he would cut himself if people told him to. So they did. So he cut one arm. Then he cut the other (not the wrists, just the forearm). I saw blood. Not much, but it made me queasy.
Then he put it up to his neck. Told people he would do it if they told him to. THEY DID! I was mortified and was one of two people (TWO) to tell him not to. So he pokes himself, and it bleeds.
I stopped watching, and the moderator closed his video chat so he couldn't do any more damage, at least not while on video. I was so disgusted. I never visited that site again, and I never will go back to a video forum.
It is disgusting to know that so many kids are willing to play around with suicide. It is not a joke. If someone says they will do it, you need to take the threat seriously, even if you don't think they will do it. The schools, or somebody, need to teach people that SUICIDE IS NOT A JOKE.
I would hope the kids that egged this kid on to kill himself would receive some sort of responsibility for his death, but I know they won't. Gah, after reading this I get teary eyed, and I don't even know the person. It makes me sad that someone could feel this way. It's why I try to make every person I know feel like they are an extremely and invaluable person to this world.

Suicide is not a joke. I totally agree...
But attention seeking behavior on the internets? The guy in your video chat falls into that category.
Abraham K Biggs would have probably killed himself anyway. I've known enough people who talked, blogged, IM'ed about suicide to know, some people just thrive on the attention. While that is not necessarily funny, it garners very little sympathy from people who have had their own private suicidal thoughts and gotten through them.

I deal with suicidal thoughts almost daily, and tend to passively enable myself by not "taking care" of myself.
I have my issues. I have moderate brain damage and some chemical imbalances because of it.
Yet I manage to remain strong enough not to give in to these self destructive impulses that assail me all day every day.
I hate to be callous but I have zero sympathy for those who consider suicide to be a viable escape for their problems - and even less sympathy for those who threaten suicide as a means of getting attention.
Sadly enough I probably would have rolled my eyes and told this kid that if he's that weak, the gene pool won't miss him.
Go ahead and down vote me. But generally the sort of person who'll OD on pills or cut their wrists on webcam are also the sorts of people who become a burden on society.

People who do things as a cry for help generally do so because they feel they have no where to turn and the internal pain they feel or the turmoil inside them is too much for them to bear alone.
Sure you get callous people who just do things to seek attention but even then they obviously have deeper issues to need that attention so badly in the first place.
I find it hard for some who says they have "Suicidal thoughts" to be quite so cold as you are in the part of your comment I've quoted above.
People generally commit suicide when suicidal thoughts become too much for them to suppress or overcome. people who commit suicide are generally either severely mental disturbed, depressed etc, not people who one day go, "I fancy a bit of attention today, I'll kill myself". Suicide most often isn't a rational, choice, it's an end of the road action.
As for a burden on society, I was a "burden on society" and my friends at one point in my life and got cut down from the back of a door after hanging myself with bed sheets. I was found, revived and given the appropriate medication, care and counseling. All this was after a long period of depression and self-harming.
Now, after a long time, I'm free of any medication, manage my depression and don't self-harm. I'm no longer a "burden on society" or to my friends, family ect.
I really don't see how someone who is mentally ill or even someone who displays mental problems through seemingly attention seeking behavior is better off dead so they don't become a, "Burden on society". People can recover, cope and thrive given the right help and support be it medical or psychiatric

Understand I hold myself to the same standard. On the day that I no longer have the force of will to resist these impulses, then I'll deserve the consequences.
Counselling has never helped me. And it doesn't help that the last shrink my mother forced me to see washed down a bottle of sleeping pills with a bottle of wine after a month of bi-weekly visits. And such a person is qualified to help me how?
Medication has never helped me. It only ever made me feel stupid and thick and numb.
So maybe my personal experiences taint my perspective, but I'm darwinistic to a fault - but don't consider myself the exception to my own coldness.

I suppose my experiences have tainted my views for the better. i now have a lot of time for people who suffer depression (I didn't before my experiences, being sectioned ect) and understand that the world isn't black & white.
Yes, some people just don't want to help themselves, I'm a firm believer in the fact that the mind is a powerful thing and you can help yourself to a certain extent. I have to use distraction techniques and various coping mechanisms to help me not to self-harm for example. But I think it's an incredible notion to think that people who are suicidal or commit suicide are in some way better off than dead than being a, "burden on society".
Mental health and illness isn't a black and white area. The brains a weird and complex organ and different experiences and illnesses and happenings affect us all in different ways and if someone that is suicidal, depressed, disturbed or whatever, can be helped and aided, then good, they should be.
Even animals look after their own and many have sense of community and help each other, humans being a more complex animal even more so. Darwinism is no excuse for being callous and cold.

If he does this when he's 19 years old, then there is a problem with the society and also schooling.
It was probably kids with bad parenting and little education that encouraged the act.
There needs to be a more efficient system to cater the kids --so the 'weird' or ones that act out of the ordinary are not casted as social outcasts.
I'm sure everyones guilty of giving atleast one person a hard time at school, not realizing how painful it is for a growing mind.
I think everything can be taught, even an annoying person can be taught to be less annoying, or selfish people can be taught to be more giving.

What did one suicide victim say to the other?
NOTHING because they were dead!
Teens are strange. I remember when I was in my teenage years and thought about suicide, my funeral, what everyone would do..etc. Of course, then "final, death, end, no more living" came into the picture, and well, I always wanted to see what the next day was going to be like.
I honestly don't believe most teenagers think about their actions in full. They are only here for the now, for the moment, and do not care for anything.
Any idiot who would tell another to DO IT should pick up their own death item of choice. They are just as guilty as someone who just pulled a trigger of a real gun and killed someone.

In the joke thread, mildly amusing and not inappropriate, here it's a bit out of place don't ya think?
Maybe that would go better here?
There's a time and a place for jokes and a serious thread about a suicided teenager is not the time or the place IMO

I would suspect his involvement in a bodybuilding forum. Many people who are into bodybuilding are also into supplements that can drastically alter your moods--even the legal stuff.
That said, the Internet can be such a mean place.

There's a time and a place for jokes and a serious thread about a suicided teenager is not the time or the place IMO say what you will...it wasn't meant to be a funny joke.... its a serious joke, meant to show the flat out truth......read the rest of my post before downvoting me. Most teens looking for the attention, and doing "suicide" as a way for fun, to get that "fill" they need. They are looking at it as a joke...well, fine, do it as a joke, but the punchline is, Your dead. You don't get to see the outcome. You accomplished nothing but shown the world how stupid you were.
So honestly, I found the joke very fitting, it went well with the rest of my post.
