Here's a badly translated explanation.
I know it's culled from the comments of that post, but if you missed it, it's quite interesting.
I've seen the photos around before, but never the exact story.
If the quality of the translation troubles you, as far as I can make out it goes something like this:
Photographer sees hawk attacking something, goes to investigate. Gets some good snaps but then startles the hawk away. Instead of just leaving at that point the photographer continues to take photos of the seagull. At this point a buzzard turns up further delaying the kill and allowing the seagull to get up and wander around.
All in, the photographer's intervention prolonged the kill by about an hour.

It gets to photoshop more slowly than I'd expect, but gets really good when it turns to Bush Bashing and then the state of mankind.

The comments on that page are priceless. Some of the best I've seen! Just completely uneducated and ridiculous. I love it!
Here's one gem I especially enjoyed:

A few years ago on Thanksgiving, everyone was at my house for dinner when someone noticed all these feathers flying past my window. We went outside and there sitting on my roof was a hawk ripping apart a pigeon. He stayed up there most all day and there were feathers in every tree and bush in my yard, and in the neighbor's.
