LONDON – Nuclear submarines from Britain and France collided deep in the Atlantic Ocean this month, authorities said Monday in the first acknowledgment of a highly unusual accident that one expert called the gravest in nearly two decades.

They mentioned that the submarines wouldn't necessarily be using sonar, but I'm surprised that there wouldn't be some other high tech equipment for detecting another nearby vessel.

What a blown up story. Okay it's a bit surprising that two submarines who were not ready for war and trying their best to be hidden, were actually hidden enough to crash, but this whole nuclear talk is a bit much.
Like the article said, the warheads can't just go boom. I mean a nuclear bomb has to be detonated very exactly, you can't just strap some C4 to it and BOOM.
And even the radiation leakage... Don't you think maybe the reactor is kindof super protected? Chances are if the crew survived all the way back to Scotland, the reactor's intact... Just my guess, I'm no nuclear scientist, but seems like logic to me.
