I was watching the news last night and there was a piece about the British National Party (BNP) and how they are gaining public popularity and drawing in larger and larger numbers of votes. This is the most recent article I could find.
For anyone who doesn't know, the BNP has always been an extreme, racist, right-wing party with links to violence and murders.
In recent times they've tried to present, what they feel, is a more friendly, less racist front.
The BNP website tries to counter the fact they are racist with a section called The truth about the BNP
It makes for "interesting" reading and only goes to prove the fact that they are racist and if this is their idea of a "public", "acceptable" argument against that fact then God help Britain if they ever gain power.
Thoughts?

I'm not sure if this was deleted or if the forums are messing up.
I don't think it was deleted because it was still at 0 but if someone has deleted it or is going to delete it then could you please leave a reason why.

Oh lord. Not being familiar with British politics, I assumed your description of the BNP was rhetoric, just party bashing and exaggeration.
After reading their site where they try to defend themselves I now realize that you were greatly understating how f'd up they are.
I am blown away that they can gain such a following.

Nope, I don't follow politics more than casually and up until now I've never voted but after reading about the support these guys are garnering and the increased seats in various constituencies they are gaining, I'm definitely going to vote. Not for any particular party just anyone who isn't the BNP.
I've known about them for years and they've largely been dismissed but recently with the increased media hype surround immigration they seem to be growing in support, I seriously worry about them gaining any sort of power in the UK.

It's equally comforting and disturbing. Comforting to know the nutcases and extremists aren't limited to the US, disturbing to see a parallel increase in their popularity anywhere.
The silent majority needs to speak up.

It can't be scarier than the extremes, can it?

« Maven:It can't be scarier than the extremes, can it? Who knows? Extremists have an opinion at least. If it turns out officially that 65% of the population don't give a sh*t about anything or anyone but themselves, democracy will tremble. I sometimes think it's a good idea to just assume that the so-called silent majority is politically mature, basically, since an attempt to enforce proof might return disappointing results.

Holy crap, I had heard some stuff about these guys but I didn't realize they were so blatantly crazy.
Ethnic minorities should be just that – minorities, making up no more than 2-3% of the population of any given area. In some areas their numbers have become too high, and there are parts of our towns and cities which have become visibly foreign.
To be truly British one has to have a British genotype, as well as to have fully adopted British culture. Blacks and Asians born here are legally British and should be treated as such, but they are not genetically British.
Its deeply saddening that these guys are gathering more support, people need to wake the f**k up.

Thankfully what tends to happen is that the BNP focus on low level political office such as local councils, targeting areas of high unemployment and immigration, playing the "coming over here, stealing our jobs and defiling our daughters" card. Once in office it quickly becomes apparent that they have no valid thoughts or opinions on the real issues dealt with by local council such as rubbish collection and fines for overdue library books.
Usually they tend not to survive their first re-election challenge.
In addition, their current leader, Nick Griffin, is such a laughable figure that the best way to counter any popularity they may garner is to give him a public platform to speak from. Any half decent interviewer can run circles around him and trip him up in minutes.
This is not to say complacency is a safe course of action. The threat that they could organise and become a real threat in the future, but at present they are not so much to fear.
