Of course he is half white, but appearance wise he is black and that is all that matters. When they were asking people to move to the back of the bus they didn't make exceptions for those who were only half white.
When people call someone a N****r they do so because they look black. Does anyone here honestly think Obama was ever called a Honky or Cracker by black passersby’s?
In any case I am tired of race being the big card. Aside from being black (which does make people take a double look) He is winning because he has a bigger smile than Kerry, and was the only democratic candidate under the age of 60 lol.

«2manyusernames : No one said Obama's race had anything to do with how he was raised.
They were only pointing out that he IS a white man. He is as much white as he is black. He is 50/50. As far as dna goes, he is both black and white. He isn't a white man because he was raised by a white woman. He is a white man because he was birthed by a white woman.
It would be nice if he recognized that and embraced it as much as bis black side. Of course there is no benefit to doing so.
Yes, embrace one's culture, but all of your culture.
Still it doesn't matter if he embraces only one of his two so-called "races"

No, Obama does not "hate" white people. No, he does not share the views of Wright. He also was FULLY aware of Wright's and the church's prejudices despite is insultingly claims to be unaware of them.
The reason he remained a part of the church is simple, understandable - even acceptable.
The church is quite affluent. It has a number of high-powered african-americans. If you are african-american (or part african-american) and want to succeed in politics in Chicago, belonging to that church was a huge help.
That is the main reason he remained at the church despite its blatant bigotry.

In any case, the thread's main issue is there are very very very few people who really believe these accusations. There are a lot of conservatives and liberals both who probably believe some of that, but "a lot" is relative and very vague.
There are also a lot of people who think we didn't go to the moon.

Race is only an issue because Obama's campaign has made it an issue and has based a huge part of its success on race.
Yes, some will vote and others will vote against him simply because of his skin. Those numbers are probably not a majority on either side.
"The Race factor" is why he got to where he is.
A white woman said that if Obama was a white man and everything else being equal, same experience, same problems while campaigning, etc he would never stand a chance. Heck he'd never even have been a serious contender. She of course caught huge flack even being called a racist by some.
When a black man such as the head of BET said the same thing, he didn't catch any flack.
In any case it doesn't matter "what if". As was said, let his views, his policies be the base of ones vote. Don't base your vote on the color of his skin.
Decide for yourself if he is as much a socialist as he is generally portrayed or if such a portrayal is an unfair exaggeration. Heck, decide for yourself if it is bad to be a socialist.
How he got to where he is doesn't matter. It is probably true that if he wasn't 1/2 black he wouldn't be running for president, and likely wouldn't have been nominated if he did run. That doesn't matter though. If you think he'll be good for the country than vote for him. How he got there just doesn't matter
/me stands behind 2many, raises on tiptoes and points emphatically over his shoulder and shouts "YEAH!", thens stares at the rest of the Plimates in the cafeteria and starts the slow clap.
obama is only black because he would never be accepted as white...
In america, the 'one drop' rule still seems to apply....
Even though Obama's 'race' is as much White as Black, the white population would NEVER allow him to be white...
The black population, on the other hand, is very accustomed to accepting these people into their community and their family groups.
Obama is not black, nor is he white. To say he is black (objectively) is to say he 'lost' his whiteness...this is the essential and strongest vestige of liberal-era racism. "If thou art to be whitey, thou must be only of the whitey. All else is mongrel."
SOME of you would be better off in the 19th century when one did not have to think about these things, because they were all "understood."
«hmtksteve : I could turn this around and ask why Obama is not willing to embrace his "whiteness". Why did Obama use a story about his "racist white grandmother" to defend the actions of his racist preacher?
Does Obama 'embrace' his blackness because he is ashamed of his "whiteness"? I would like to know more about the internal conflict Obama has with his biracial heritage that has made him ignore one whole side of his family.
Because he had to, race was brought up so he did what any person would have done, speak about a personal experience of someone close to you. And he wasnt the first one to bring up his race, the media was the first ones to jump on that issue. Even in reporting that race shouldnt matter they's still the ones that make it the topic of conversation by posting the black guy versus the woman in every article.
- on a different note I consider him a black man because of how he looks, at first glance you would not know he was mixed. I also appreciate his white side and I'm sure he learned lots of life changing things growing up with so many points of views surrounding him but I say from what I know and see he's turned out to be a very well-educated and responsible adult. And one of the few political figures I can relate to on any level. His charisma, his smile, he just seems like a neighbor that would help you take out your trash more than Mccain who seems like someone who would walk by without making eye contact or slowing down.
we'll see, MCcain will just get all stressed out and have a heart attack before election day, or forget that he's running.. I really hope he doesn't but if it happens i'm gonna feel like poo now
