South Carolina Working on Abortion Ultrasound Bill
South Carolina Working on Abortion Ultrasound Bill
Lawmakers in South Carolina are trying to pass a law where women looking to get an abortion will have to view ultrasound images of their fetus before going ahead with the abortion. This will include women who have been the victims of rape and incest. picked by escaflowne 3 years ago

I think this is a good thing, but maybe not for victims of rape.
They were forced into a situation they had no control over, so they're the only ones I can understand maybe choosing to have an abortion - I don't support this, but I can understand why they deserve a right to choose. I think, though, that if emergency contraception was made WAY more available to rape victims immediately after the fact (it's not, and I don't understand why! It works just like the pill, but stronger!), abortion in this special case would almost be a non-issue.

The baby is half of the rapist, but it's also half of the victim. The baby wasn't responsible for the victim being raped and shouldn't be punished for it.

Is there really any woman out there who does not know that abortion is having a baby? Dead, but still.... I don't know tha this would help. Viewed early enough, a pregnancy looks like a blob, or a fish. Then a fetus. Doesn't really look human till 3 months or so.

I know several who have had abortions, one was a rape. That woman is plagued by guilt and sorrow. The 'oops' baby, saved from a life of penury, is not really mourned or missed. Although it has been 'replaced' by a loved child, in more affordable circumstances....

This looks more like a guilt trip than anything else. But I think it's a good thing, too. If you're going to kill your child, you should have to look it in the eye first.

I had an abortion two years ago. I looked at an ulrasound of it beforehand. The fact that it was cute did not change the facts of my situation and did not change my mind, and I am not plagued with guilt OR shame.
My only hope is that the same people who are wanting women to be brow-beaten into not having abortions are also the people trying to support Welfare and women's services.

So, are they also going to drag the FATHER of the unwanted baby in and make him look at the ultrasound?

If someone is going to get an abortion then chances are that they are already going through enough emotion s**t, why add this guilt-trip on top? All it's going to do is give these poor women, that have a RIGHT to have abortions, breakdowns. It's not fair to the woman at all.

Good question, and I hope they do (although I doubt they will). If they are going to make the mother look, they ought to make the father look as well. It does take two people to create a baby, after all.

Even rapists?

This is nothing more than an attempt to throw some unecessary guilt around. This is not an easy decision to make in the first place and the person deciding should not be further burdened.

I know this is going to make me sound like a f**king politician, however "I am against abortion, but I support the womans right to choose."

Rape and incest aside, there should be no reason for an abortion. If you are too poor or irresponsable to raise a child, give it up for adoption, there are plenty of people out there looking for a baby.

However, it's not my body and not my decision to make.

i understand that it's an emotional decision but if they have to look at a picture of their baby it might save one baby's life...theres always adoption. As far as bringing fathers in what happens if there is a dispute and one parent wants to keep the baby and one parent wants an abortion?
