Finland, Iceland top the 2007 list of press freedom
Freedom of the Press 2007 points to improvements in several countries such as Italy, Nepal, Colombia, and Haiti; however, it shows mixed trends in Africa, as well as a continuation of a longer-term pattern of decline in press freedom in Asia, Latin America, and the former Soviet Union. picked by makri 1 year ago

Interesting, that! Especially the Map of Press Freedom 2007. Cool to see that Ghana, where I live/work now, has almost as much press freedom as Greece, and a bit more than South Africa..., but in any case considerably more than her neighbours in West Africa.

The Nordic countries top the list, but the press release points out:
However, increasing threats from far-right and Islamist groups during the year resulted in modest declines for a number of top-performing countries, particularly those in Scandinavia and northern Europe.

Shared 16th spot isn't all that bad, nicely in the mid pack of western world, even beating Canada.
