I would like to know EXACTLY what the question was. I've seen polls where the question is something like "Do you prefer Red or Blue?" and the results were "37% of People HATE Red!"

polls are completely worthless. They mean nothing. They are all biased by the way the questions are asked, the people asking the questions, the people asked, the answers that people feel the pollster is wanting, etc etc etc.

You can make a poll to come up with any result you want.

I do love how people think that Bush & crew have the intelligence of a 5-year old dog when it comes to most things, but at the same time has the amazing intelligence to pull off a huge conspiracy of multi-national, epic porportions.

Well according to polls, some ridiculous percentage of America believes that September 11th was a governmental conspiracy to accomplish something or other or even destroy documents related to Enron. Osama bin Laden? Wouldn't hurt a fly! Those videos of him speaking about it, nahhh he was just KIDDING! Muslims throughout the world hold rallies and cheer over the great victory (read: death of thousands of innocent lives) of 9/11 the day it happened, but the act was certainly not an act of Islamic terrorism -- no: the US government or maybe Israel or the Zionist population throughout the world organized it.

So, basically, some really large percentage of the population is either misrepresented or really uhhhh, well, how do I say this in a nice way?.... Dumb ....

Well, there are vast number of ways to make sure a poll excludes all these biases. While it is possible to construct a poll in such a way you get the result you want, it's not that all polls are biased. Same with statistics, there are scientificlly correct ways to make them accurate too.
But most of the time newspapers for example, try to simplify the results of polls and statistics, which makes them inaccurate. Good ones have an accompanying text that explains the exact circumstances in which a poll/statistic was constructed.

To make a long story short, I don't doubt stats/polls principally, I just make sure I only follow those that are constructed on a scientifical base.

And for the story itself, the exact number doesn't really matter. It's pretty obvious the number of people thinking the reasons for starting this war where made up or skewed badly is increasing by the day, along with the number of people thinking the war is a failure.
