Bush Nominates Homophobic Fundie for Surgeon General
Bush Nominates Homophobic Fundie for Surgeon General
Again, Bush chooses ideology over competance, selecting Dr. James W. Holsinger Jr., who wrote a paper for the Methodist Church in which he compares human sex to pipe fittings.

Not judging the story, I just find it funny, VooDoo, that you spelled it competance instead of the right way, competence. Very Funny, indeed.

lark - VooDoo isn't leader of the free world. I think we can give him a pass on spelling. I bet you can still figure out VooDoo's point despite the error.

Belvario, he wasn't being a jerk about it, he was just saying it was funny. The way you make it sound is as though larknet was saying "What a freaking retard! You are inadequate as a human because you spelled that word incorrectly."

Great theme pic. I won't waste my time reading the paper, though.

I for one have always stood up for gay rights. I have been outspoken about it here at plime and elsewhere.

Still I have to say that this paper does not have any bearing on whether he would make a good surgeon general or not.

They may accuse Bush of choosing ideology over competence, but
a) the paper does not prove or disprove his competence

and

b)they are choosing political correctness of competence.

Considering his claims are comletely groundless and the medical community has gotten over stigmatizing gays since the mid seventies, I think that says a lot about his fitness. What next, nominating a phrenologist?

One 16-year old paper (no matter how groundless_ does not tell you everything about the man. one paper would not prove that he was a genius, nor can it prove that he can not do the job.

"stigmatizing gays" or not "stigmatizing gays" has no bearing on his ability.

It tells enough, in my opinion. We're not gonna agree on this, I reckon, but I'm highly suspicious of the agenda behind this nom. Surely there is someone else better qualified?
