"I mean, we've taken corporal punishment out of the schools because we think that's brutal and yet our playgrounds seem to be becoming more brutal than ever," the minister told the Nine Network.
"Maybe a little bit more discipline in the schools would prevent some of the ugliness that we've just seen."
Amen.

Perhaps if the person doing the punishing isn't turned on by it... choose a teacher who dislikes it or something....
But yes, I have seen kids who aren't that bad, but who still need a smack. You know the ones, demanding the parent do or give the kid something, or who mouth off and the parent is at a loss as to what to do....
Gotta start at age 2 or 3 with the discipline on who will run the relationship. There's a reason the parents are older and bigger and more experienced. Studies have shown that children REQUIRE boundaries, and push to find their limits. If you don't provide limits, some kids can actually feel uncomfortable or unhappy!
Unwavering obedience to a parent's voice may seem overbearing, but when the truck is barreling down on your kid and you scream at them to look out, you don't want them to run into the street because they are testing your boundary!!!
ANd how far is the discipline of corporal punishment to modify behavior from the discipline to clean your room and do your homework?

That's just it. It's a great way of preventing bullies etc, but sometimes it's the teachers who are doing the bullying.
I was whacked by teachers and head masters many times as a kid, across the hands and butt, and I still don't think it was necessary. It stopped me doing the harmless bad stuff I was doing but filled me with resentment too.
Fact is, I continue to this day as a middle aged man to cross out mistakes with an extra scribble just to make a (mute) point towards the b*****ds that hit me for doing that years ago.
If the kids are beating the s**t out of other kids.... different story, but I still hate to think some "educator" might enjoy solving the problem like that.
