Sex Ed for Kindergarteners 'Right Thing to Do,' Says Obama
"'Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,'" said Obama mimicking Keyes' distinctive style of speech. "Which -- I didn’t know what to tell him (laughter)." picked by deepchill 1 year ago

it's as appropriate as mothers buying thong underwear for their 8-year-olds. diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I guess.

yeah, serious. I'm still trying to wrap this around my head. Are they going to be illustrating with Hole'n'Peg toys or something?

"so you see, children, while the square peg goes in the square hole, some people like to put their peg in a round hole..."

have to admit this is an insane idea. Children of that age don't need sex education, it isn't "the right thing to do".

What possible gain is there to be had in trying to explain to a 5 or 6 year old where babies come from, how to put on a condom, etc.

yeah. i agree kids should know where it was they came from as soon as they are old enough to start asking, but to go beyond and explain things like "innapropriate touching", which will lead to things like "safe-sex practice" is crossing a line that I don't want my government to even approach.

'Nobody's suggesting that kindergartners are going to be getting information about sex in the way that we think about it,' Obama said. 'If they ask a teacher 'where do babies come from,' that providing information that the fact is that it's not a stork is probably not an unhealthy thing.
So, plimers, did any of you actually read the article or are you all just making rash statements based on the headline?

i tell my kids i carried them in my womb and then they came out. that was enough for them. if someone ever tried to explain to my five year old about sex i would feel like they were being sexually harassed.

it's just a little disheartening to know that our politicians think it is their place raise everyone else's children. if some idiot wants to tell her daughter she came from a stork, it's not like she won't find out its b.s. anyways.

While I can agree and understand this, I was referring to the fact that the majority of the comments were about 'oh my! the horrer of telling children about sex!! dear me!", when the article itself featured Obama clearly stating that this was not the case.

yes but it is the case they feel it is their responsibility to stand up and be 'daddy'. they refuse to address the underlying problem. if ma and pa are so messed up that little johnny thinks he came from the sky, courtesy of a stork-like messenger of god, we shouldn't have the officials, whom these children have no choice but to come in contact with, going up and telling johnny ma and pa are wrong, especially without ma and pa present. address the problem at the root, not the stem.
