Hillary Clinton stiffs Maid-Rite Waitress Posted: 1 year ago by blurmore
And adds her sob story to her stump speech without asking. As a former waiter...I am flabbergasted. This woman must be stopped.

There was no bill... no one was charged for their meal and Senator Clinton sat at the bar.
Also, there is no rule, written or unwritten, that says you can't use restaurant chit-chat in a speech.
I'm flabbergasted that you're flabbergasted.

Have you ever been a waitress??? Would you appreciate someone using your unfortunate situation to further their political career?? NO??

If you eat in a restaurant EVEN FREE...you tip. you tip. you tip.

I'm NOT a die hard republican, or a right winger of any kind, look at my avatar, check my other posts...this woman is a witch, and not fit to hold public office.

I submit that this is done by EVERY politician in the world and should not be a surprise to anyone, anywhere. It does not make Hillary Clinton any worse than every other politician who has ever aspired to any public office. This honestly doesn't seem outrageous at all to me.

As for the tipping, I'm sure that sucked for the waitress, but we don't know exactly what happened as the article is woefully short on details. I agree that it is incredibly rude and amazingly unintelligent for a person seeking the Presidency to not graciously tip her waitress. It does not, however, make anyone unfit for public office.

Touche. I'm not saying this is the only reason, just another look into her core as a truly insensitive and politically unworthy person.

It is my firm belief that anyone seeking public office is automatically unfit to hold it. It takes a certain kind of person to be willing to sacrifice their private life in exchange for power. Anyone willing to make that exchange is most likely ready and willing to sacrifice YOUR private life, as well as anything else that seems handy, to get MORE power.
My point in this whole long debate is that Clinton is no worse than any other candidate. Hanging her out to dry for doing exactly what they ALL do seems unfair.
In the spirit of full disclosure, while I WILL be voting Democratic in the upcoming Presidential election (unless some 3rd party candidate gives me a good reason not to), I have not decided which Dem candidate I'd prefer. They all make me want to hide in a corner.

Agreed, not a savvy move - but you have to picture the situation. It's not as if a politician just drops in for a cuppa joe, unaccompanied, all casual-like, during these stops. This is an orchestrated political stunt, repeated daily by every single candidate of every stripe in this race. The candidate is not in control of the details - handlers are doing everything so the candidate can do a live performance. The candidate certainly is not focused on how the bill is being paid, etc. That said - not too smart of her handlers to leave everyone with a bad taste in their mouth, especially with the press trailing behind interviewing everyone.

To the "liberal media conspiracy" theorists - please take note that this story was sprung by NPR... :)

I listen to NPR all day, every day, I guess I'm a Liberal??? I agree that it is more sensitive than say...FOX NEWS but it ain't no Air America. If Fox can take themselves seriously calling themselves "fair and balanced" I can say NPR is pretty even keeled.

My state is so blue candidates barely land at our airport on their way back to Washington, let alone campaign, so I'd have to travel to PA to have brush with political fame.

Exactly. Asking a person before you talk about them in a national campaign is just good manners. So is leaving a tip, for that matter.

To people who don't actually *listen* to NPR, that makes you a liberal :) (these are the same people who made "liberal" a dirty word - which would be interesting news to "liberals" like Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, etc.) I wholeheartedly agree with you.

From the story:

Editor's Note: Since this story aired, Hillary Clinton's campaign contacted NPR to say that the campaign paid Maid-Rite a bill for $157 the day of Clinton's visit and left $100 in tip money. NPR contacted Maid-Rite manager Brad Crawford, who confirmed that a bill was paid and tip money was left. Crawford, who was not in the restaurant at the time, said that he believes a campaign staffer left the money with one of his employees, but "where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left." Neither Anita Esterday nor the manager on duty that day were available for comment as of noon Thursday.

So they actually left a tip of roughly 60% of the bill. I'm guessing she should be ruler of the world now?

Agreed. [I have worked as a waitress, I did for a few years. That's how I made it through school debt-free].

Perhaps the individual in question (who is likely still seeking her 00:15 of fame) may not see a problem with a single mother working two jobs to make ends meet, but Ms. Clinton and those supporting her platform do. If the waitress didn't want a politician talking about her situation, then perhaps she should not have discussed it. Really, what is the difference between a politician mentioning a person he/she met or any other gossipy old hen doing the same thing?

Based on the article, Ms. Clinton did not use the name of the waitress, she just made a reference to her. I really don't see the problem.

I dont even like Hilary that much, but i'm going to have to side with her.. she dind't have a bill it was on the house. that's like giving someone something from free at the store but then chargeing them for tax.. plus it said someone in her team left a tip of $100.. i don't see a problem.. definatly more important things in the news

The restaurant has now admitted that the $100 tip was indeed left, and was to be split among the staff on duty, but that "it might have not been disbursed properly." So the restaurant stiffed her, not Hillary or her staff.

Why do 'you tip, you tip, you tip'? Don't they get a wage? Why is there this culture of because someone serves you they must be paid a tip? If you get something out of the ordinary then perhaps yes but for somebody doing their job - no!

Are you serious? I don't know if it's nation wide, but here in my state, waitstaff gets, I believe, $2.01 an hour. Without tips, that would come to $16.08 a day.

How long before no one would serve you? The alternative is for the restaurants to pay their waitstaff a living wage, but then your $10.00 dinner is now $15.00.
