Jr/Sr High Students waging a war on peace
This is sad. Kids at a Florida school railing against a group that protests in favor of peace. picked by hypersapien 12 months ago

"If peace is the answer; it must be a stupid question."

Something about this story just doesn't add up. There's a lot of anger portrayed here, seemingly at a club or group of people who really aren't doing much of anything at all.

Something tells me we're not quite getting the whole story. Anytime a reporter portrays one group as clearly wrong and hateful… and the other group as doe-eyed innocents… my Scooby senses go off. It feel like there’s something we’re not being told.

It is the emergence of the generation of people who seek conflict where there is none needed.

Strictly American, ain't it?!

I don't doubt this story is true. When I wore a handmade peace sign shirt to the grocery store I got the same reactions. People equate peace with surrender monkey.

For the love of God, don't read the article comments. You'll want to punch everyone in the face.

For instance [and gammerus, this proves your comment above], here's what one "Anonymous Patriot" had to say about shirts with peace signs:

During war-time the implication of wearing a peace sign is clear -- you are against the war (and quite possibly all wars)...If you don't support the war, you aren't supporting the mission of our troops. If you don't support the mission of our troops, you can't possibly support the troops themselves.
I damn near tore out a chunk of my own hair.

When one person, or some people, express an opinion, others who do not share that opinion feel compelled to make their point equally strong, or more so. When someone expresses that "we should be peaceful" it irks me, because I'm concerned that people are failing to take into account the facts. Sometimes force is necessary, rational discussion is only effective when both sides are able and willing to consider and operate in a rational, honest, open and proactive manner. Usually this is not the case. If one or both sides insist on using scare tactics and oppression, peace will not be a viable option.

But I DON'T have a fit when people wear shirts with peace signs. I don't give a gerbil's jinglebells about a symbol on someone's clothes. I don't give a damn if you walk around painted with swastikas. As long as you don't start trying to measure my facial structures and gauge my eye colour and commit random acts of violence against me, you can knock yourself out.

Holy sh*t - you can't possibly be saying that the article is biased, can you? Because journalists never EVER portray a bias!!

In all honesty, I don't think I've ever read an article that was not biased at all. If everyone can keep thinking critically and not believe everything the news/tv says, our society just might not turn out like "Idiocracy".

When I lived in Columbus Ohio, on the campus of the largest university in the US, on the night of the announcement of the 1st gulf war, THOUSANDS of students marched from the campus to the downtown area (several miles), blocking rtaffic and chanting PRO-WAR sloguns, like it was an emmense football ralley or some such. A buddy of mine was trapped in his car for almost 45 minutes per this, and when a 'ralley-goer' saw his long hair, he put his face up to the window and yelled something about 'peacenics' being fags or some nonsense. To this, my buddy flashed a peace sign... and they overturned his car.

The majority of Americans (United States ones, anyway) are VERY well-trained, non-thinking, violent, reactionary zombies. I hate this country with a passion and can't WAIT to afford a move elsewhere...

I ask this, and I hope you don't take this as condescending or any of that... I’m just a little curious... where are you hoping to go? Have you thought about where you'd prefer to live, or not yet?
