 President Huckabee? Be VERY afraid
President Huckabee? Be VERY afraid
This is not good. This will probably destroy any chance he has for election. Huckabee seems to advocate turning the US into a Christian-Taliban. He has stated that he wants
to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards

There have been previous stories that paint him as some ultra-radical fundamentalist, but this has got to be the worse thing he's stated. Also this is not someone's interpretation of his actions/beliefs. This is an actual quote:
“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,” Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. “But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”

It isn't a report. It is an opinion piece on his quote. A quote which was printed. A quote which I included above.

If you can think of a way to swing that statement where it doesn't mean what it states, please enlighten us.

If you don't like that one, pick any other the other reports out there on it - even Scarborough was taken aback by it. Bring the Constitution in line with the word of God? Separation of church and state, founding principles of the nation, hello?

Thanks for playing, Mike! The door is over there, don't let it hit you on your way out.

I always figured that if you gave Huckabee enough limelight he'd eventually say something like this - at least he's honest about his position anyway.

Okay, someone with a rank of 20 voted it down. Perhaps it wasn't you.

I am sorry for assuming it was you. I think you can understand why it would appear that you did.

Perhaps it is being voted down due to the comment itself and not the fact that it was assumed you were the rank-20 member that voted this down.

Huh? What exactly in the Constitution does he want to change? And what exactly are God's standards? Does he mean to eradicate anything in that does not go along with his Christian views? What incredible ignorance!

I think the context was amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage.

Thanks for that. Even in that context such a statement is a horrible and scary thing.

Not to mention incredibly bigoted. I guess it is okay to discriminate against some groups but not others.

And of course, once you start traveling that slippery slope of using the bible as the basis for your laws, something like a so-called christian version of sharia laws isn't that inconceivable.

Yes it is an opinion piece.
But "Christian Taliban?" Come on. Those were not included in either the Original Story or the opinion piece.

I'm in awe that you automatically assumed that I downvoted this piece and then posted that false assumption here. I'm still sitting at a -16 which means that at least one other person downvoted me.

If you want to downvote me based on my post, fine. But don't downvote me based on false information.

So it isn't the article's opinion you objected to, but my description? That is even more of an opinion piece. An opinion that is shared my many many many people.

It is a logical progression. It is something that has been stated on several blogs. Sharia law, law based on the teaching of Islam is bad, but law based on the bible isn't?

To ban gay marriage because the bible says so is fundamentally wrong. It is also hardly inconceivable that such a change to the constitution would not be the last.

As I already said and apologized for, I incorrectly assumed you were the level 20 plimate that voted this down. It must have been one of the other level 20 members. I also stated I did not vote your comment down due to my assumption

I would have retracted that accusation, but you already quoted it.

Relax on the downvote. It is minor and has no effect on your rank and your complaining about it resulted in you getting upvotes so it is having even less of an effect.

Also, how can you be "in awe" of the assumption. If some post gets downvoted by 20 at the same time a level-20 member comments, wouldn't be a logical assumption?

I am in awe because you made a false assumption and then posted that assumption. Whether you like it or not 2many, your opinion carries a lot of weight here at Plime. There are a lot of people (including me) that respect you. You normally show quite a bit of tolerance and respect.

My comment is currently sitting at -25 with a +21 upvote.

Bandit, unfortunately "Christian Taliban" is not far off the mark. Mike Huckabee has well-documented ties to prominent Dominionist and Christian Reconstructionist leaders - Steve Hotze just held a fundraiser for Huckabee in fact, which Huckabee attended. If you are not familiar with the Dominionist and Christian Reconstructionist movements, better get up to speed - they specifically want to impose biblical law, exactly like Sharia except substitute Bible for Koran. John Ashcroft (he who anointed himself with Crisco when he took office) had ties to the Reconstructionists too.
