Everyone's hands are in everyone else's pockets. The first thing we should do it get rid of all the lobbiests, that would be the best thing for this country. Lobbiests persue their own intrests, or the intrests of thier clients, first and formost. The House of Representatives needs to get back to it's roots, the Reps need to go back to thier various states and see what the people want, instead of pandering to each other and pandering to the lobbiests. We outlaw lobbiests, that is the first thing, they do not hold the intrests of the people, only the companies they represent, and the big 4 are always the strongest (Alcohol, Tobacco, Guns, and Oil), and none of them have the people's best intrest in mind, only the bottom line.
<score></score><crdate>1/25/2008 7:57:51 AM</crdate><rssdate></rssdate><atomdate>2008-01-25T07:57:51+01:00</atomdate></comment><comment>

blurmore @ 1/24/2008 11:49:59 PM

<noembed>flash video</noembed>

<score></score><crdate>1/24/2008 11:49:59 PM</crdate><rssdate></rssdate><atomdate>2008-01-24T23:49:59+01:00</atomdate></comment><comment>

dollyllama @ 1/24/2008 9:53:14 PM

« craziesean : I hope it was just Bushes crappy term in office and not just the fact the American peeps will b***h about anything and everything. although he has done a poor job.
Oh no. This is rather thought provoking.

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some
2,000 years earlier:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years."

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
<score></score><crdate>1/24/2008 12:56:16 PM</crdate><rssdate></rssdate><atomdate>2008-01-24T12:56:16+01:00</atomdate></comment><comment>

ReBoot @ 1/24/2008 12:44:02 PM

/Bangs head on desk
<score></score><crdate>1/24/2008 12:44:02 PM</crdate><rssdate></rssdate><atomdate>2008-01-24T12:44:02+01:00</atomdate></comment><comment>

buddha @ 1/24/2008 12:42:32 PM

“If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.”
America has never been a Democracy, it was originally a Republic, but it has become a Despotism over the years.
<score></score><crdate>1/24/2008 12:42:32 PM</crdate><rssdate></rssdate><atomdate>2008-01-24T12:42:32+01:00</atomdate></comment><comment>

TraumaMamma @ 1/24/2008 12:40:28 PM

3931 American reasons I won't miss him.
