NYT has a report on McCain. Among other things is the rumor that McCain has been having an illicit relationship with a lobbyist. McCain's response is denial. More info here and here

It's a 4 page article that has four co-authors listed. Much of the detail is pretty specific.
I would expect the NY Times, particularly with the history of other stories of this nature exposed as being unverified in other media, to have checked this carefully before publication. If this is in any way pure speculation those reporters are finished.
I don't have a serious problem with politicians having sexual affairs but the Republicans should after the madness that followed Clinton's BJ.
