 Machetes and Elections
Machetes and Elections
Until he was circumcised with a machete in front of a jeering mob and then dragged off to be beheaded, Robert Ochieng had been a symbol of modern, post-tribal harmony in Kenya.

We badly need some brighter people making decisions for our policies. picked by DerAlt1 9 months ago

At first glance, I thought your headline read "Machetes and ERECTIONS"

...you had me worried for a minute!

How really awful. We need this administration out, they are selling our collective soul.

The man who probably had the election stolen from him, Raila Odinga, is a Luo, as was Barack Obama’s Kenyan father.
I love how they have to add little trivial notes.

I couldn't agree more Dolly. Of course, you probably knew that, since you've read quite a bit of my anti-administration diatribes. :)

Difficult balance indeed.

Pick one:

1. Damned if you do.
2. Damned if you don't.

If we do nothing, we are accused of acquiescing to despotic regimes.
If we do something, we are accused of meddling in the affairs of sovereign nations.

I'm firmly in the 'mind our own business' camp. This includes Kenya. It is sad that bloodshed has to happen there, but sometimes it becomes necessary for a people to rise up and violently remove the chains of oppression(Ghandi being an obvious, if rare, exception). It is costly, but they will remember that cost for a few generations(at least until apathy sets in) and will work more diligently to preserve their freedom than will a people who are 'liberated' by an outside force(see Iraq).

Now, if someone comes over here and picks a fight with either us or our allies, the gloves are off.
