Ralph Nader officially announces bid for presidency Posted: 9 months ago by ashlesdc
Please, lets not make this a repeat of 2000!
Florida, don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Andy Borowitz's comedy take on this.
He's just an egomaniacal idiot.
Some adjectives are so specifically appropriate.

This is the worst thing that could happen now... The American population didn't need this in 2000 and definetly does not need it now in 2008.
The only thing that this is designed to do is split the vote unfairly, specially since for once there is a chance that the country could be in for real change for the better and not the same old thing over and over and over...
Granted, it's not better in other countries, but Canada is looking mighty fine right about now.

If you look at what he has done and what he says he wants to do he is not a crackpot at all. To correct what was said above he did NOT wreck any elections either. If you care to remember 2000 and the Florida fiasco and a coup led by the supreme court it would seem many people had a part in wreaking that election. In 2004 when the disenfranchisement moved to Ohio and Kerry rolled over like a well trained dog is that to be blamed on Nader?
It is not his fault the the democrats can't win. The democrats can't win because they SUCK. If the democratic candidate actually had some ideas that would solve problems and that made any kind of sense to people they would win. The issue is that the democrats don't offer any viable solutions. They offer you the same crap that you have been getting your whole life and try to tell you that you will like it this time. Let Hillary talk one more time about how she will make health care mandatory in order for you to work and she might as well dig a hole and crawl in. People will not pay that much money a month for the privilege of working. The two party system has been hijacked by corporate interest and so it exists only to serve those interests. If you want a country by and for the people you can vote for neither party.
If you feel compelled to vote for what you would call the lesser of 2 evils by all means feel free. Isn't that really throwing a vote away?

And responding to what Nader is saying about all this: Yes, it is unfortunate that voters have such a limited choice, and it is a nice idea to give them more options, but right now all he is doing is taking votes away from the candidate with the views most like his own.
It's absurd, this guy must secretly be a Republican, it's the only logical explanation.

It's absurd, this guy must secretly be a Republican, it's the only logical explanation. I blame him for letting Bush ruin our country. He stole a lot of the 'smart people' vote from Gore and therefore allowed Bush to more easily steal the election.
But, if it wasn't for Nader we wouldn't have seatbelts, so thanks for that. Now go sit in a corner please.

Can you tell me when a good time would be for a 3rd party candidate to join the race? Your reasoning traps you in a broken 2 party system that only serves the interests of corporations and never gets any better. If people weren't afraid of "throwing they're vote away" Nadar would have done a lot better.
The reason that people hate him is because he will get votes. You claim he will steal votes from Obama when it's the other way around. Obama is getting the Lesser of 2 evils vote instead of a vote for someone you really want in the white house.
I will give you this it will be tough to choos because I would like to see Obama in the White house too.
