Clinton Aide Suggests Obama Is Successful Because of Race Posted: 8 months ago by mahler87
Ferraro, a Clinton fundraiser and supporter, and former vice presidential candidate, told a California newspaper that Obama would not be in this position in the contest "if he were a white man, or if he were a woman of any color".
Hilary Clinton has declined to comment so far.

While OBVIOUSLY this never should have been said, isn't this EXACTLY what the media keeps jamming down our throats?
I am by no means into politics, but it really pisses me off that their issues are by and large completely ignored and the only aspect of their campaigns are "Barak is black and Hillary is a woman."

Geraldine tried backpedaling, on the morning talk shows, but I don't think she was that effective.

Race is an issue in every aspect of our society (here in the States anyways), from schools to sports and politics. But I also think that with Obama it's been overblown.
I like him because he's not a beltway insider and might just be able to restore some faith in the presidency (God knows there isn't much faith left to lose).
Would it be cool to have a non white-male-protestant president? Sure. But that's not why I'd vote for him.

Talk about biased reporting.
She said that if she were named Gerald Ferraro instead of Geraldine Ferraro she wouldn't have been the VP nominee in 1984...likewise if Obama wasn't black he wouldn't be as far as he is now.
What she says is TRUE. When you're black and you're getting 90% of the black vote...it has nothing to do with your issues.
It pissed me off on CNN the other day when they interviewed some black women and said "Since you're black women, will you vote for Hillary or Obama" as if because they were black and women they only had those two choices. Couldn't they possibly vote for policies?

(Yea, that's sarcasm...)

It's probably true. I'd say a fair number of Barack Obama's supporters support him because they feel he represents change: the idea that we could have a black president in a year is inspiring. While he personally is very charismatic and I am a supporter, I very much doubt he would be as popular or viable if he were the same person and white.

The problem is that you can't say that without people pulling the racism card. And to be associated with the opposing campaign and say that is just idiotic.

Couldn't they possibly vote for policies? I saw a similar interview of some black women before the South Carolina primary. They were a bit insulted at the question and assured the reporter that they would not be influenced by race or gender and would vote only on the issues.
The black vote was over 90% for Obama.
Not surprising at all, it hasn't been that long since the reverse of that was true.
We ought to be realistic: Italians vote for Italians, Jews vote for Jews, Irish vote for
Irish and on it goes. Choosing running mates have traditionaly taken these predjudices into consideration.
