SPIEGEL is a small step up from BILD, I never liked their 'Tom Clancy' style much and through the decades their 'uncovering' claim to fame turned into plain sensationalism altogether.
Of cource I can totally see that the CIA would love outside sources for fabricated evidence, that way they don't have to make everything up themselves and have deniability at the same time.
Yeah, the US needs foreign intelligence to judge a situation and base an invasion on..

Unfortunately this story leaves out the fact that before the war the US had clear indication that everything "curveball" said was a fabrication and ignored it, deliberately.
Since when do we take the word of Germany as whole cloth and ignore our own intelligence sources?
Since the administration wanted a war with Iraq, at any cost. And that is what we've gotten.
