The Taoiseach announced today that he will tender his resignation as Ireland's leader on 6th May following allegations of financial wrong-doing.

Ahern denies the suggestions, instead saying that government was suffering from his distractions.

That ad is great! Should mention that the former Taoisigh all get a car and driver and bodyguard compliment of the Government for life. And they're expected to be able to debate as Gaeilge.

Oh, I'm glad he's gone. But in a way, he's done a lot of good for the country too. I think he did alright. For a cowboy.
But amazing how he managed to get re-elected last year, even after the "I was a financial minister with no bank account" nonsense. He was a slippery fellow.
Cowen as next leader of FF.... Not quite as charismatic as Bertie! But, maybe that's no bad thing.
