yes it was deplorable. Yes Americans are way too freaked out by breasts (tens or hundreds of millions in fines for Janet's exposure?). They are especially overly-freaked out by breast feeding.

Look at the huge uproar the PARENTING magazine got for having a picture of a baby latched onto a breast. No nipple was showing. No more breast was shown than you would see at your local beach, night club, or even on t.v. but because a baby was feeding America gets all bent out of shape. Is is asinine and deplorable.

HOWEVER, the woman brought the trouble onto herself. She was breastfeeding on the plane, the attendant offered a blanket so as not to upset the rest of the plane (yes there is no reason they should be upset, but nevertheless many would be) instead of accepting the gracious offer of a compromise she decided to use that moment and her baby to make her activist stand. Then to make matters worse they disrupt the airline and airport and who knows how many passengers and crew.

As I said, yes there is no reason people should freak out about it. At one time, there wouldn't have even been an offer of a blanket. She would have been denied the right to do it all. Things are improving.

I am just saying she was not the innocent victim. She is just as much responsible for what happened than anyone. Even more so since she refused the offer of a compromise.

In short she was not removed because she was breastfeeding. She was removed because she refused to obey the directions of the crew of the plane.

I totally agree 2many.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with breast feeding in public. But why not cover yourself and your baby? I have no problem with you mothers not being covered up, but why created a spectacle?

You know (some) people are bothered by breast feeding in public, so why not just throw a small blanket or sheet over yourself? You're baby would probably enjoy the dark, restfullness of it too.

As I said above, I wouldn't care if you were buck naked feeding your baby, but some people do care and people (in general) should try to be respectful of each other.

It's a never ending battle that will never be resolved.

I was thinking the same things when I posted this. Yes, some people overreact when confronted by a woman breastfeeding, but I do feel this mother should've just accepted the blanket so as not to make a scene.
I nursed my daughter till she was a year old, and had I been that situation, I would've gladly accepted a blanket--who wants a planeful of people staring at you while you're trying to calmly feed your baby, anyway?
