Congressmen Driving In Style - At OUR expense.
Congressmen Driving In Style - At OUR expense.
The House of Representatives allows its members to lease cars and have the taxpayer pick up the fee for the lease, gas, insurance, maintenance, everything. (D)Charles Rangel says if he drove something that cost less than $777 per month it would be "disrespectful of his constituents" ?? picked by 2manyusernames 7 months ago

Disrespectful? Why, it would be downright treasonous!

Perhaps if stories like this were more public the House would change their rules. The Senate disallows such lease agreements, let the House do the same thing.

While we're at it, let the congressperson carry his own damn umbrella.

Charlie Rangel has a 2004 Cadillac for $777/mo. Sounds like someone is making a pretty penny. Wouldn't Rangel's constituents want him to have a newer car? I'm just sayin'

They didn't make it clear if the $777/month was just the lease or if that included gas/insurance/maintenance etc.

You bring up a good point. How much profit does the seller make with the buyer knowing it doesn't come out of his pocket. How much a "campaign donation" does the representative expect to get for his patronage of the car dealer??

$777 seems cheap compared to how much it costs the tax payers to fly the president across the country for a fund raiser for one of his party memebers.

Must I note that he is actually giving taxdollars back to public ?

If he was spending the money in foreign countries, then it would be a bigger problem.

How is that an excuse for stealing taxpayer money? I could just as easily spend it in my home state too.
