Landowners say they're getting trampled by corporations rushing to secure gas drilling rights Posted: 6 months ago by 2longdogs
Unsuspecting property owners around the country are getting trampled in an old-fashioned land rush by natural gas companies and speculators trying to lock up long-ignored drilling rights quickly and cheaply.

Most of these tactics date back to the original "Coal Rush" that ran thru Wv and robbed land owners of their rights. People would sign "mineral rights" contracts that stated the coal would be removed and they could keep the land... which was promptly strip-mined and left the owner with a wasteland that couldnt' support a farm or a family. There is little exscuse now for signing off on rights to your land without checking with a lawyer or a surveyor... its horrible that people are still being screwed... but they have to shoulder some of the blame for not educating themselves...

History repeating itself.

If YOU think $5 an acre is a fair deal why get upset when your neighbor gets $500 an acre? Don't blame the landman for your s**tty grasp on the value of your mineral rights.

Some people are just too indignant for their own good.
