Jimmy Carter tells Barack Obama not to pick Hillary Clinton as running mate Posted: 6 months ago by unzercharlie
"I think it would be the worst mistake that could be made," said Carter. "That would just accumulate the negative aspects of both candidates."

I would have not had a problem with the possibility of Obama picking Hillary as his running mate had she not made that insensitive assassination comment in late May.
Now she has me along with a number of other Democrats paranoid that there could be ulterior motives.
Whoever Obama picks, I hope he thinks long and hard about it.

That doesn't make sense. They were both almost even in the polls. Why not combine the voting power they both possess? Add his votes plus her supporters and they have it in the bag for sure. Although, Obama probably has it in the bag already it would be nice to solidify it.
I like this quote from the article...
"The intervention of the former president - regarded as the senior elder of the Democratic party by some, and as a walking reminder of electoral failure by others - comes just as speculation of a joint Obama-Clinton ticket is building in the US."
Carter is a walking failure.

You do realize those were Democratic Primary voters? He still needs to pull non-Democratic voters in the fall or supress the Republican voters. An Obama/Clinton ticket would galvanize both sides and put the electoral power in the hands of the independents or "swing" voters.

It sounds like a dream ticket but there are too many people that just Hate Hillary with a passion. She is extremely polarizing. People seem to love her or hate her. The two of them combined would probably result in a landslide victory - but for either party.
And yes she does have a lot of baggage. Bill was able to get away with a ton of incredibly bad deeds during his tenure, but all that would be brought up again, perhaps with a bit more fervor.
The two of them obviously don't get along. They wouldn't have a good working relationship. Obama isn't dumb. He knows that Hillary would not stand in the wings willing to accept the role of going to the funerals of various heads of states.
She would be using all her resources, financial and political to further her own agenda, damn anyone who gets in her way.
Also, I am only 43% joking when I say that if I was Obama I would not sleep safe knowing that my beating heart was all that stood between Hillary and the power she desires.
There is also the dynasty effect that some would want to stay away from. We had 8 years of Clinton and 12 years of Bushes. Clinton gets the VP slot and that could result in 16 more years of Clintons.
Also Obama sang "Change". Hillary is far from a change. She is as much old school politics, back room dealings, special interest toy as any other.
Obama would be better suited getting a VP that has pluses where he has minuses. Someone with experience - especially foreign policy. Someone a bit older. Someone that can help soften the hard ultra-left socialist view that some paint him with.

Someone that can help soften the hard ultra-left socialist view that some paint him with. I agree with this completely. If he could get someone more moderate or even conservative, then I know I would feel a lot better if I chose to give him my vote. Especially with as much power as the office of VP holds today, I think that we need someone more right, if only to attract the independents.
The same for McCain, if he could get someone more left, then it would be better I think for the campaign and the country as a whole.
If Hillary were to be chosen, then I think that the image of a future socialist America would wholly color Obama's campaign. I'm not saying that's what they would do, but I definitely think that's what the masses would see.
EDIT: And I chuckled at how Obama would need 24 hr security from Hillary. It was one of those cold, dark, foreshadowing chuckles...

I think Carter has lost his marbles... if he ever had them. With his recent trips the mid-east... I can't respect him.
The fact is as much as some may not like Hillary should would COMPLETE the ticket and it would be an easy win.
She would also be a good influence on Obama. And if she goes too far Obama's wife will beat her up :>
