New Zealand Green Party Absolutely Supports A Ban On Dihydrogen Monoxide Posted: 5 months ago by 2manyusernames
Unbelievably, and a definite indication of the naivety and ignorance of the Green Party in New Zealand, they actually fell for one of the oldest hoaxes on the net dictating the horrible and toxic effect of dihydrogen monoxide.
I really hope that this article is a hoax. Any input from our NZ plimates?

That was very clever. That's a very effective persuasive strategy. *applauds*
However, I don't think that lumping everyone in with the idjt that fell for it is very fair.

Is it one staffer that decided to post a statement for the whole party without any approval from anyone or did several people or at least top people blindly fall for such silliness.

I've read the "fact sheet" Within 3 lines or so, I knew what the substance was. So I did an impromptu survey among my family, and most of them were clearly scared by it. Then they read a little further and figured it out. For anyone who makes public safety their responsibility to fall for it is insane

Here are the letters that were sent
It looks like Sue Kedgley was never asked about it. A single staffer with no scientific knowledge answered it on her behalf.

I convinced my aunt that we should ban dihydrogen monoxide once...
She sent me this article about pollutants released by cars so I linked her to the site about banning H2O
and she emailed me back saying how scary H20 was haha
Not her fault though but it just shows how easy it is to trick people by giving them only the negative facts.
