« kakana : Put them in uniforms, send them to Iraq. Then we'll see who can handle the war better. You forget that McCain did fight in a war. McCain was tortured in a prisoner of war camp. Real torture too, not the new definition of torture which literally includes embarrassing or humiliating a prisoner.
He has experienced war, despite the horrendous crap by Gore Vidal who called McCain a liar and questioned whether he really was a prisoner or not
and the disgusting reports in the media and bloggers that only recently ended stating that perhaps McCain was turned by the torture, that he was a Manchurian Candidate.
That being said, whether either of them could fight the war in hand-to-hand combat is not the question and you know it. McCain's combat experiences does not necessarily translate into a diplomatic ability to wage/avoid/end war.
His experience on the ground may or may not translate into a good sense of military strategy (which either of them would have experts to listen to)

WAR IS OVER!
IF YOU WANT IT!
I don't think all those years in a vietnamese prison camp will really come in handy regarding the present conflicts. If someone can explain for me how that experience will translate into a valuable resource for McCain to draw upon I would really be interested.
The Iraq war is BS based on the lies of megalomaniacs fulfilling a personal agenda. The US plunged an unstable region into chaos and we are now watching warlords scramble for a piece of the power. Pull our forces out now and let them settle this themselves. I'm sure we will end up going back there soon enough anyway.
The war in Afghanistan while having more of a genuine reason is hopeless. Don't forget what tanked the Russian economy. It was their attempt at war in Afghanistan. Just look at what is happening to the US economy already (weak dollar, high fuel and food costs, housing market, wall street bail outs). Can the country really afford to keep dumping TRILLIONS of dollars into this?
a short play:
actor 1: Horray!! Iraq is a free democracy will schools electricity and running water. What's for dinner?
actor 2: Alpo.

His prior military experience merely gives him an understanding of the mindset of the people in the military. That's about it.
What gives him an edge vs Obama is that McCain has more experience with EVERYTHING since he's been a Senator since 1986 (and a Congressman for four years prior to that) and Obama will have spent half his Senate career (2 years out of 4) campaigning to be President.
That being said, neither candidate have the executive experience I prefer to see in a Presidential candidate. In my view, the "career path" best suited for a President is something along the lines of Mayor -> Governor -> President. When someone spends their time in the legislature they are "trained" not to make hard decisions that will be THE most important part of being the Chief Executive of the country.

Pulsix, please prove your baseless allegations. There is zero proof that Bush lied in order to get us into the war nor for that matter that it was a personal agenda.
I'm not saying the war is good or that we should be there.

935 lies:
On May 29, 2003, in an interview with Polish TV, President Bush declared: "We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories." But as journalist Bob Woodward reported in State of Denial, days earlier a team of civilian experts dispatched to examine the two mobile labs found in Iraq had concluded in a field report that the labs were not for biological weapons. The team's final report, completed the following month, concluded that the labs had probably been used to manufacture hydrogen for weather balloons.

Just because you refuse to see the proof doesn't mean the accusations are baseless..... it has come out over and over again that the administration ignored inteligence that went against their war agenda, that they omitted this evedence when before congress pushing the war. The link to Al-Queda, the presence of WMD, the plot by Hussain to buy plutonium... all bulls**t... and its been proven.... dont down pulsix or the rest of us for seeing the light just because you have some need to defend the president when the truth is staring you in the face...

McCain has experience as a soldier. He has no experience running a war.
Everything he's done and said suggests that his philosophy when it comes to any problem is 'beat on it until it goes away'.
I'd much rather have someone in charge who uses his brains and recognizes the fact that the people we are fighting are human beings too.

« shep182 : they omitted this evedence when before congress pushing the war. This is a common fallacy. The Senate and House Intelligence committees get the same data the President gets. And they had been getting this data longer than Bush was in office. To suggest that 535 grown men and women would vote for a war based on the word of the President is asinine. It just doesn't work that way.

It may be bullsh*t but at the time, the consensus was that this bullsh*t was true. The only question was how to handle it.

Richard Clarke had previously mentioned that as soon as Bush/Cheney entered the White House they were pressing the Intelligence Agencies to find reasons to enter Iraq. Cheney was spending more time at CIA headquarters than any VP in history, to apply direct pressure. The majority of the most damning intelligence was given by a high ranking Iraqi codenamed "curveball" who himself had a personal agenda to get rid of Saddam
Here is a Wiki link about the project for a new american century. Later I hope I can provide you will an actual PDF of their mission statement.
That our present Bush has a giant chip on his shoulder seems obvious to me maybe not to you. Perhaps he has something to prove to his dad who led the previous Iraq war and had an assassination attempt on his life in Iraq as well. These would be personal reasons for him and really I can't prove them. However, when one examines the reasons publicly given and sees them as hollow and transparent you may start looking at nearby facts and developing your own opinion. This paragraph is my opinion I don't state it as a fact and as it deals with things we can never truly know it is unprovable. Again, it is an opinion.
Sorry I used Wiki links i will try to find you some more reliable info later.

I am not saying he did or didn't lie.
I am just asking for proof. There is none and that is why he has not been and will not be impeached.
There is no proof, but it doesn't matter as long as Bush is concerned.
Too many people have a hatred for Bush that is beyond reason.

Too many people have a hatred for Bush that is beyond reason. What do you mean by "proof"?
We have people that worked in the white house with Bush/Cheney in the closest possible ways coming out now and saying that Bush/Cheney lied. Revealing some pretty damning things about the administration.
To me that looks a lot like proof. At least more like proof than what we got before the war. How are you saying there is NO proof? There is more coming out everyday.
Are you looking for a picture of Bush making out with Tony Blair on a map of the Middle East?
